After the tranny went on my '03 Sport, I got a little disallusioned with the KJ; and after driving a '07 Nitro, I bought it and sold the Jeep :( . I was offered a heck of a deal, and I really like the luxury items on the Nitro, like ipod input, 115v outlet, comfy seats, hatch, ltd slip, lots of storage for coins and etc, .I know its only a "soft roader" having no low range and worse approach/departure angles, but in the long run the extra room and comfort features won me over. I'm eaven getting 2 mpg better with the same engine. Cons are: seams bulkier to drive, doesn't seem to be as quick, body roll, not as alluring to girls(lol). But being better balanced and with both rear wheels getting power, in combination with my snow tires, I rarely put in 4wd. With the KJ, the right rear tire would not stop spinning, even in the dry if driving aggresively.
However this has been a very imformative site-cheers to everybody! :)

I hope you enjoy the Nitro. The Nitro is on a slightly modified KJ chassis & is the same as a KK Liberty. Bigger body & more weight with the same engine/tranny & worse axle ratio may explain your performance issues.

Aftermarket head unit, power converter, leather heated seat swap, coin holder from Pep Boys, Not a fan of hatch, LSD can be added. KJ would have all that and 4wd especially living in Canada.

Your transmission went bad and you went out and bought a vehicle that is 5 years newer with the exact same transmission

ThunderbirdJunkie was going to say the same thing

Do you know why your transmission went out? Because at this point it seems like it's going to be a perpetual self-fulfilling prophecy;)

It was the torque converter that went, then upon disassembly the cluthes were found to be burnt. Strange, as I had only towed maybe 4 times a double snowmobile trailer, and always out of overdrive. Yes, it could happen with the Nitro, but I will probably sell it before the warranty is out.

At least you stayed with Chrysler. :) I looked at a 4x4 Nitro SLT and it wasn't bad. I do like the looks, looks like a mini Durango. Still, I can't part with my KJ. Unless it's a JK Unlimited Rubicon.

That happened top me...right before Christmas in 05 or 06...I forget which...I do remember it was 100 miles out of the bumper to bumper, no deductible warranty ran out... ... so I had to page $100 bucks for the 8/80 warranty I got because I bought it Chryco Certiifed Used. The torque converter took a dump and killed the trans...they had to replace both...they put in a factory reman trans and OEM torque converter. No problems since then and I have probably 40 or 50 K on it...knock on wood...

Didn't realize they made the Nitro in 4x4- with a 4Lo t-case.
