Post subject:  Front License Plate Holder...
I posted a few pictures of the jeep climbing a snow hill at work.

Well, the other night I actually touched the accelerator on the way down (ooops) and ripped off the front license plate.

Has anyone (in areas where you must have a front plate) moved the location of the plate (getting rid of the holder) to help with approach angle?

Any pics?

Hey Uttles,

I flipped mine over to clear the shackle in the front receiver. There's normally 2 screws at the top and 1 at the bottom so you can use the top 2 screws as the "bottom".

There is a thin piece of plywood behind it which I bolted the third (now top) screw hole to, hoping to give it some more ridgidity, however there is more movement than I'd like at the top - I'd guess it wouldn't be too hard to rip it off if one tried, but it's been on there for a year and a half like that.

The other thing I've thought about is re-locating it off-center like it is at the rear, but that wouldn't solve any approach angle issues.

I suppose you could just throw away the holder and screw the plate directly to the bumper! :)

you can just move to Michigan, where you are not required to have a front plate :D :D

Another option is to go with an aftermarket bumper (such as ARB) which will relocate the plate up higher and the bumper itself improves the approach angle. Of course, this is a $1000 solution to a $15 problem. :wink: :roll:

ARB...Now that would be a great solution. It's more like a $2000.00 solution here (Shipping etc.) HAHA

I like the idea of losing the holder and screwing it right on the bumper. I bet I could put a nice bend in it with our aluminum break here at work so it follows the contour better.

I'll check it out. Not sure I like the idea of moving the entire bracket up like you did Kewick, only because I don't have a shackle there and it would stand out more.

Broke mine a while ago. Just drill 2 pilot holes straight into the plastic bumper where ever you want it. Then screw it right on.

Yeah it was really just a temporary (1 1/2 year, lol) solution for me, as I needed to figure something out in a hurry.

Looking at the picture, I think I could ditch the holder and screw it to the bumper directly as well, right over the shackle opening.
