Post subject:  Roof Rack mounted lights

I recently picked up a slightly used Surco roof rack for my Libby and decided that I wanted to take the two Hella 500's that are on my bumper and throw them onto the roof rack along with another pair of driving lights, for a total of four. How has everyone been mounting their driving lights to their roof racks, how much has it cost? pics and/or links would be appreciated, thanks.

My Garvin came with brackets for lights.

May try Garvin Wilderness Racks web site and look at the bracket pictures and see if they will work on your own rack.

Mounting lights on a roof basket is a piece of cake. My 5 year old could do it. The hard part is how the *ell do you run the wiring and make it look half decent?? Do you have to drill a hole in your roof??

The Hella lights are easy to conseal. Run the positive wire down the weather grommet. Go to www.jeepkj.com and there will be a wright-up on how to do it with pictures.

My shop built one for the jeep. Check out the pics under the pictures forum index and look for "NEW STUFF for the KKKustom KJ" there are pics in there for my set up.

kkkustom,
how much does your shop charge for that setup, i like how it sets up in the notch at the front of the roof rails. Also, i have a limited with a sunroof, do you know if your rack will interfere?

Well as far as price, it will be around $80-$100 for the mount, rubber wire gromets and Stainless hardware. paint may be like $10 more or something. so far we just made that one, but after christmas I will wip up a few more and let you guys know.

as for the sunroof... I will have to look at one in a parking lot, or something. does it extend behind the front of the roof rack, or come up and slide back past it, or what?

the sunroof slides open and vents.
when it slides open, it goes inside the roof and wouldn't interfere at all.
when it vents, it only opens about an inch off the top of the roof.
there shouldnt be much of a problem as long as the rack doesn't get that close to the roof.

I got lucky on wiring the rack-mount lights. I just ran the wire down the gutter to the lightbar wiring harness.
