Am I getting old (nahhhh) or is the stock interior lighting in the KJ bad? Not so much the front, but the single light in the rear is lame (can a higher power bulb be replaced here?) Also, some lights in the middle of the car would be helpful as well (ever try to find/see something behind the rear seats at night? - good luck!) Anyone ever add some additional (maybe some LED lights) to their Liberty? Other than that the Liberty rocks! |

Somebody installed a dome light from a Durango or Ram in the middle of a liberty over the passenger seats a while back. Unfortunately I can't recall who, or even if it was on this form, but it looked very nice. The bezel even matched the bezel that the front dome light in the libby has if you don't have an EVIC. I have planned to do this myself for 3 years now, but like so much lse, I just never seem to have time ![]() I have a spare liberty dome light since i installed an EVIC, but the libby lights are too deep to cleanly install in the middle of the Jeep. |

Yesterday I ordered a factory dome light from a 2005 to add over my rear seat. I decided I needed one after I had to use a flashlight to find what I was looking for. I plan on running it off the cargo dome light under the headliner. I also ordered the courtesy lamps. Hopefully they'll be here before the weekend, but it may be the end of next week before I've had a chance to install them. I'll post pics when I get them. I've seen the interior xenon kits on eBay, and have considered ordering one, but I am concerned about the heat they produce. |

I actually leave mine turned off. I can normally find everything in the Libby by memory and a little feeling around. |

I have the side curtain airbags on my 04 Sport. Does anyone know if there is anything up in the middle of the roof that I could screw up by doing this? I was thinking of wiring it in-line off the rear cargo light. |

i was at autozone the other day and noticed a pack of 4 bright led lights that are ment as step lights for 25.00. I was thinking about puting those in the head liner on a switch but they could probally be wired into the dome light. they are round and mount flush. they have a chrome bezel so they would match the silver stuff all over most kjs. |

Seems like you could put as many lights as you want because of the low power usage of those bulbs? |

So I got my light today and attempted to wire it in, but didn't have any luck. I tried to wire it directly to the cargo lamp. It is switched, able to be turned on and off by pressing it, just like the cargo lamp. There are 3 wires for each. I cannot get the lights to work independent of one another, when you turn one off or on, the other one goes off or comes on. This also make the front dome light go off or on. I tested with a volt meter and all 3 wires were either all hot or all cold. My Liberty was built in June 04 and the headliner looks completely different than the one pictured over on jeepkj.com in the how to. I think it is because I have a sunroof. Also the light I added had a switch, his did not. But over the back of the rear seat, but still in the cargo area, there is a flat sport in the headliner I had never noticed before. That is where the light is on the newer 05-06 models. It is on 11.5" in front of the cargo light. Which makes me think that maybe there might be a plug under the headliner. I was smart enough not to cut the headliner before getting the wiring worked out. But I didn't have time to pull out the headliner today. If they were thinking far enough ahead in the late 04 build year to make a place for that light, maybe they have the wiring there. I thought I knew my wiring and electrical diagrams well enough to know what I was doing. I was an Electrical Engineering major...for a semester. I even tried the trial and error method, only 3 wires only 6 possible ways to hook them up...but none worked. If anybody has any advice on this I would greatly appreciate it. |

The rear cargo light can control the other dome and map lights by pushing the lens on the cargo light you can turn all the interior lighting on or off, I would run your wiring to the map lights over the windshield Bob |

I initially wanted to run the new lamp off of the front lights on the EVIC. But I decided it would be harder to work around the sunroof, I guess I could run them around the edge. I never knew the cargo lamp was switch until I started messing around yesterday. |
