if I push up on the my passenger side axle where it connects to the splinned rod that goes into the diff (not sure the tech name for that) there seems to be alot more play vertically then on the other side. I would exepct that it would move more just by the design over the drivers side...but I am wondering if someone can go check their rig and tell me how much deflection they have vertically

the part of the axel I am talking about is the big cyclindrical part (other end that goes into the hub (the part in this pic in the middle)

http://www.partstrain.com/templates/pt/ ... 603351.jpg

thanks for the help

Mine is the exact same. I took a vid of it this past weekend but forgot my camera where I was at. Its around a 1/4 inch of play or so.

So far Im not worried about it. Just going to keep an eye on it and make sure it doesnt get worse.

Would be sweet if someone else would check theres to see if there is any vertical play in the CV housing where it goes into the diff on the passenger side. Push up on the area where the boot clamps to the housing.

There should not be any play between the inner CV cup and the diff housing. If there is more then about 1/16" of play the plastic bushings are getting worn out and can cause the seal to leak and other problem can occur.Early '02 KJ's got actual bearings in those spots but later '02+ KJ's got a plastic bushing, there cheap and easy to install.

where exactly is this busing? got a pic by any chance?

the play in mine seems to be more in the actual CV joint itself and the axel is only like a month old. We put in the old CV and it looks to have similar play so I don't think it's the CV

I just looked at the 02 parts pdf and all it lists is the axle seal and an axle shaft bearing, do you mean the bearing?

You can not get the actual bearing anymore, the updated part# gets you a plastic bushing.

Part# 05066056AB for the bushing.

It requires you to remove the seal, you will need a new one to replace it with, and then use a regular axle bearing puller to remove the bushing like in the pic below.

I just wanted to add that I can confirm that the 03's (or at least mine) has the needle bearings instead of the plastic bushing.

Quick question if you have a minute, do you know of anyone that may have put the torrington bearing in place of the plastic bush, any ideas?

I ordered the following Omix-ADA parts from CSE offroad:
16534.12 AXLE OIL SEAL FRONT DANA 30 KJ 02-07
16536.32 AXLE BEARING FRONT DANA 30 KJ 02-07

They showed up in Spicer boxes as 50608 and 566131 respectively; with Omix-ADA stickers added on. The bearing itself was a Koyo J-228.

They fit fine in my 2005 diff which had plastic bushings.

Hi again, do you have circlips to fix the bearing in?

the 07 that uses the plastic bush doesn't have the clips, though I do think replacing it with the torrington bearing would still work, the seal would keep it there I should think anyway. I also found another seal which is a TTO E386, it doesnt have the flange on it though it is a rubberized or metalized seal, 35mm x58mm x 10mm, I think its a candidate for a seal alternative.

The dealership in Australia charged almost $70 dollars for a single plastic bush and around $60.00 for a seal, I'm not doing that again.

If I was not in a hurry I would of bought 50 of the seals on Aliexpress for about $60.00.

Arrrrrrrggghhhh....

Thanks for you info.

Where did you find that price at? Northern Drivetrain?

CSE price for Omix is now $26.37 for a seal and bearing. I am getting my reman half axle from Napa, and I guess my intermediate shaft from AutomotivePartsUnlimited.com @ 110. Haven't ordered yet.

I could also go w/ Crown Automotive via Quadratrac. Cheaper but not sure of Crown quality. Would like to fix and forget.
