Ebay doesn't take a comission from shipping fees. It's a common way big sellers screw over ebay.

make sure they charge you the right shipping, I won 2 of those items and they over charged me both times on shipping.

They are making their money on the shipping. It probabally cost $5.00 to ship it, but still you only have $25.00 bucks into it.

Is there a way I can see what the shipping would cost them?

It doesn't matter at this point, myke. You entered into a leagally binding contract with them by bidding. They can claim they have $20 in handling fees and be prefectly legal. Thats why ebay doesn't shut these guys down. They only do so if the shipping is overly excessive, like $75 or something.

I got the clear tail lights from them. The price of the product was low, but shipping was like 28 bucks and took too long to arrive in my opinion. Nearly 2 weeks. I got the clear front lights from a different Ebay seller.

I sell on ebay all the time, MOST things can be shipped for $3.50-$5.00 (insurance included) unless you get into the more bulky heavier things. Those shouldnt cost a lot at all.

Many of the sellers make money off of their shipping costs and its NOT illegal for them to charge 30 dollars for shipping whereas the actual shipping is 5 dollars. Here is a true story about myself....about 8 months ago, i sold a cell phone to a guy who lived 10 minutes away from me. Since he needed the phone immediately, I met up with him somewhere in town and he gave me cash for the phone and shipping charges even though i did not even ship the phone out.

See, I wouldnt mind something like that and I wouldnt consider that cheating someone. I think charging $10 to ship something that actually costs $3.50 to ship is a rip off. Then again, you have to factor shipping into the total cost of what you are willing to pay for the item (and it is posted) so no one is really to blame but you. Either way you were going to pay that price, you were just mislead on what you are paying on (the item vs shipping)

With gas prices the way they are, driving the KJ across town probably costs $5-10 :-P Plus that personalized service, they have to pay your consulting fee, what's that like $40/hour?

Yeah, a lot of places on ebay make money selling cheap stuff with huge shipping fees. Sometimes it's still worth it if you look at the total cost. the last time I made one of those purchases was when I wanted a car charger for my phone. I decided to get a car charger, home charger, and data cable, since the outrageous shipping ($12) stayed the same, while I got all three products for under $10

Well, the "Buy it Now" price on those is $19.95 and that's with $9.95 shipping from the same company u got ures at. So, if u paid $5.50 w/a $19.95 shipping charge you could figure you saved about $5. Hey, it's something!
It just annoys me that the same place with the same product will charge you $19.95 shipping while they charge people that pay the "full" $19.95 purchase price $9.95. Does it cost more to ship if u win it at auction as opposed to "buy it now"? I'd queston that.

I have seen buyers screw over sellers too. My buddy who is lets just say "special" had a 1996 or 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX (turbo all wheel drive stickshift) in good shape. The winning bidder was a guy in Israel or Jordan (can't recall the country now but know it was in the mideast). The guy won the car for $8,000 and mailed my buddy a check for $10,000. He then had a company pick up the car and ship it to him under the assumption that my buddy would cut him a check for the $2000 (he had a great story about how his country made cashier's checks in $1000, $5000, $10000 increments). So the car got shipped to where ever and geuss what-the buyers check bounced. So my buddy was out a car, $2000 and in trouble for passing a bad check at a dealership as a downpayment on a new car. Moral of the story: unless the buyer or seller is in the US, dont do business with them. If high shipping costs mean the product gets to you and is the right product, enjoy it. If something looks too good to be true, it isn't true.
