Hey Dudes -

Ok. I have a '02 with the LSD. After installing rear Rancho shocks and a PowerTrax NoSlip I noticed that my Jeep developed a knocking sound from the rear when offroad. Based on previous posts here I thought it was due to loose or improperly shimmed shocks. Not the case.

It turns out that the knocking is coming from the axle shafts... they have a bit of play in them and are moving in and out (a little less than 1/4”). The knocking is the sound of the c-clip doing it’s job and stopping the axle from sliding all of the way out.

Is this normal after a NoSlip install? Does anyone else have this happening with his or her setup? If not, did you grind down your c-clips to get them to fit into the locker? (I did.) I'm wondering if the knocking in mine is exaggerated due to how loose my c-clips are in the locker.

clicks and clangs are normal sounds from the powertrax, on or offroad. Not ALL The time but frequent.

A little bit a play in the axle shaft is not normal I believe, at least mine didn't have any.... My clip fit extra tight too, but then again I have a open diff. Seems like I recall reading something about problems installing in a LSD and the directions were incorrect, i'm sure someone can chime in on that.

Yea, I've got the usual PowerTrax noises going on too... mostly on-road, though. It's just got me worried that the c-clips are experiencing more stress than they were designed for. Maybe I should carry around some spares...

Or get a rear disc brake conversion kit. That's one extra advantage with rear discs, the calipers can hold your axle on if you break a c clip or axle shaft.

Darn right the P-trax will do it. C-clips ain't got nuthin to do wit it.

"from the axle shafts" Not that either...its the P-trax doing and undoing.

I don't have c-clips and I got every noise imaginable. I don't think you will have any damage to worry about whatsoever. IF MY AXLE HAS SUSTAINED ABSOLUTLY NO DAMAGE, THEN YOURS WONT. NOBODY'S NO_SLIP IS MORE TERRIBLE THAN MINE. I have inspected it several times. It is affected also by lube thickness and air temps.


I should be one month out from the release of D-35 ECTED.

I'm pretty sure the noise is from the c-clips... I took the tire and drum off and was able to push and pull the axle in and out a little less than 1/4".
