Is this a metal grill?
or
the OEM plastic...fitted with grill inserts?

Too shiney!
Inserts would definately need a spraying. A homemade job would be cheaper and just as nice.

Personally i dont believe shiney belongs on a jeep, u want shiney get a crappy h2 or 3 hummer . But thats just my taste. I think ole Willy would be turning in his grave. Jeep = Utilitarian, rugged, fun. But again just me some people like lower em and put 20 inch rims on em. It's all relative i guess.

You were expecting someone to actually answer your question Chris? You never said a thing about chrome , but almost everyone went towards that instead of the real question of what it was made of. Keep telling you people read three words then answer    We'll have to come up with a test to judge how people react to a certain phrase

By the way pretty sure its plastic , metal would be way expensive.

I'm going to eventually LINE-X my grille to get it more protection. Probably would make it stronger than metal.

should, at the least, help hold it together should it get cracked

not really a bad idea, would go good with line-x'ed bumpers and flares and what not
