I have a smittybilt xrc8 first generation winch. Now then.

Decided to replace the synthetic line I had on there ( was worn from many uses ) with new line - used the control to unspool the winch ( worked fine ). Went to spool new line in and the winch decided to give up. There's a clicking sound coming from the control box - winch refuses to engage the drum to spin. Did something very important just decided to die on me ??

Winch worked fine several times this past Saturday and it unspooled fine via controller power...

I would check the battery connections, and relays inside the control box. I had a similar problem with my warn, but it turned out it was the battery not the winch, winch drew so much it melted the battery terminal.

If nothing else it may be time to get a WARN

Connections are tight both on battery and on relays... worked just a few min prior to giving up on me...

was saving funds for a warn on the cj... might be forced to dip into that fund =/

tbj - want to buy a used winch

I would give Smittybuilt a call and see if they will help you out, I have heard several great things about their customer service
