So it came in the mail a few days ago but I can't put it on until next monday, my birthday. Do I NEED the cross bars up top to mount it, or can I just use my existing side rails?

I plan on using U-bolts in place of the over priced mounting kit.

If i need the cross bars, i'm going to my local junk yard and they had an old wagon with cross bars that fit perfectly for $40.

I've done tghe same thing as Lib ertyFever. I have just the side bars. The rack has its own cross bar that you will U-bolt to the side rails of your KJ.
