So I was surfing the ebay site and saw this handy little item:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-03-04-JEEP-LIBERTY-3-7-3-7L-V6-Dual-Air-Intake-Nice_W0QQitemZ8023970663QQcategoryZ38634QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I'm thinking not of performance because let's face it, my KJ weights over 4,600 lbs and I'm not looking for speed. Rather I'm thinking of space! If I switched to this air cleaner, I could remove the air box and put a washer fluid bottle there!

Anyone have any comments on the down side to using this thing? I don't want to hurt performance. Thoughts?

I think it would be sucking an awful lot of HOT air from the engine, and might even lower fuel economy.

Yes, I was thinking about the heat thing.

These type filters are generally cleanable and reusable, so that's not a huge issue.

Heat is probably key.

Adam, if you get that setup, dont go mudding. Mud gets thrown up in that general area and will coat those filters. Its a bad idea IMO. If you want more space, get a K&N and get one of those washer bottle kits from Autozone.

I'm inclined to leave the air box alone. I happen to think it's a good design in terms of keeping out mud and even water (unless you're a submarine). That's a good point about the mud covering the open filters.

I'm just concerned about where I can even fit an aftermarket bottle. But for now, I'm leaving the setup stock and having the metal shield installed in front of the washer bottle. I figure if I take the right lines - that is, I hit the big rocks with my TIRE and not my washer bottle! - then I'll be ok.

I'm having that shield left painted black, the way ARB ships it. But the bumper is being painted my KJ's Khaki, so it should de-emphasize that shield.

Anyway, good points. Thanks for the input. Ya'll saved me $50 plus headaches.

You can get little covers that goes over the filter to help keep down on it sucking in water and mud. Its like alittle sock.

This kinda blows that open element air filter idea to pieces. And no I didn't get stuck-she walked right through that 2 foot deep mud. Yeah good luck cleaning that. My K&N drop in filter works just fine for me.

I took a 4 inch dia pcv pice cut it to 5 inches. took 2 caps and glued them to each end. to a 2 in 45deg elbow and birdsmouthed the one end and cut a hole in the 4in dia pipe between the 2 caps for a filler. take the water pump and pull off the white plastic filter. drill a 3/8 hole or what ever dia that pick up is and JB weld her to the bottom. ditch the low water sensor. now, the pump is an impeller set up, i did not notice that untill i tried to attach the pump next to the bottle and run a rubber hose to the inside to pick up cleaner... doesnt work. the pumps pick up needs to be submerged. ill take pics later and post the. any way it fits right behind the air box infront of the heat exchanger or what ever that canister is.
