have a evap system medium leak code popping up. Already did the gas cap trick and it didn't work. Any ideas as to where to start tracking down the leak? THanks |

After a significant amount of searching, I ended up taking mine to the dealer to track down. They found multiple leaks on the hoses for the evap system. Lee |

check for split/cracked hoses around purge solenoid, where the plastic hoses travel down the firewall and at the front side of the fuel tank before taking it anywhere, thats the majority of evap leaks that i've seen. |

Any auto parts store should have vacuum hoses. |

i usually replaced them with a reinforced hose such as a fuel hose. the hose that chrysler used is not thats why it cracks and splits. |

I found two possible causes. One is the hose from the top of the throttle body that goes to ???. Its a short 90 degree bend hose has cracks. Another is the rear axle breather tube is split pretty bad where it connects the axle. Not sure the last one could be the cause, or the first one for that matter. but I'll replace them and give it a shot. |

replaced both hoses and the code went away. Got about 6" extra for the rear axle breather to compensate for the lift and droop on that side when on the trails. All is good. Thanks bros. |

Glad you found your problem & fixed it. On my 98 XJ I had that code coming up and took it to the dealer. They could not find a problem and advised it must be a bad sensor which would cost more to fix than an actual problem. Fortunately this was an intermittent problem and did not come up on my CA smog test. I just drive it and clear the code out occasionally. |

I had a similar problem on my wife's 2001 300M. I ended up taking the gas tank down and there was a small 1/4 vacuum hose that was split. It was nice having a $.25 repair (my labor is worth $0). It would have been close to $1000 at a dealership. Just my $.02. Bruce |

On my KJ it was the small rubber hose at the union of plastic hose near the gas tank and one union up under the hood near the rear of the engine that had dry rotted and cracked. |

Yeah...pulling the old off is the hardest part...got a piece of reinforced fuel hose, cut to size and clamped on. |
