I would like to put dual batteries in my KJ. Are there any manufactures for this and would I need to install a bigger alternater?

Why do you need a dual battery set up?

Not too much room in the engine bay, could mount it in the back cargo area or under the seat.

Great... cause if he wants more power, a dual batt system will yield less power than he has now...... That's why......

Say what? Maybe he has things that he is wanting to run while the Jeep is off. Thats the only reason I can ever see that you would need an extra battery.

Other than putting it in the cargo area you really dont have too many options. You should not need a bigger alternator.

Wasn't sure if I needed a extra battery to help start in the extreme cold. and if I needed to winch myself out of anywhere. If I stayed with the single battery what would be a good battery to get?

REALLY? Is that why large trucks run multiple batteries? Chevy put 2 batteries in the K3500 for the tow package and the plow packages. In car audio competition we have run up to 4 batteries in one car to have enough stored energy to run high powered DC Amps.

Yo TJ, is there room for that battery in your engine room? They are awefully big.

Diesels run a 24 volt starter, hence the need for 2 batteries for the starter(same goes for big rigs).

You have to exceed the alternators amp output before you are using the battery power.Adding a higher amp alternator on a KJ is useless since the PCM controls the alternator and does not know that you put a higher amp alternator so it will not use the available amps(it will actually cut down the power since it senses overcharging).

You can add a extra battery and use a isolator so it it totally not part of the system until you need it from discharging the OEM battery in the system(running stuff with the engine off).

How about something even more ultra rare where you realize that your way isn't the only or best.
