I've been trying to find a solution that would allow me to mount a jerry can along with the spare tire on the back door, but can't find anything. Is there anything out there I can purchase, or is this strictly a do it yourselfer?

This is the can I'd like to use: http://ca.geocities.com/itsajeepthing@r ... gascan.jpg

Thanks all!!

There's a guy who posts on here that has plans for a two-can holder which fits with the rear tire in place. It mounts to the hitch mount and swings down to open the rear hatch. I can't remember exactly where the post was but if u search around u will find it. I saved the blue prints as a jpeg if u want them - email me.

OR - See the next post!

Heres a picture of what Cacher123 is talking about:

This shows the mount and hinge mechanism:

And this shows how the cans are held in place on the mount:

phxtoad is the person who has the set-up and the plans - I'm sure he could get you a copy if you asked.

How far does it stick out the back? Does it affect departure angle any?

YES it does effect it. The hitch extension that everything is mounted on is 12" long. So that's probably a few degrees.

Hi,

Can someone email me some of those shots as larger images (and especially the the pdf drawing), so I can get a better look. The first image of the composite shots on http://www.cardomain.com/ride/683398/3 wont load.

I think its a great idea, something I can mount when doing long trips. I've been searching the web for something like that. Here in Australia, I can't buy a long range fuel tank for my 06 Renegade (only up to 04 is available), so the only way is to carry jerry cans, but then how do I hold them? I had seen another alternative but it mounted them flat on each side and I think a swing bolted to the vehicle, but that partially covered the tail lights.

thanks
Stephen
