Anybody replace theirs windshields at all for their KJ have any advice to offer?

Is OEM best or the alternate makes? I understand that there are only a few manufacturers.

Do all have tint shade at the top and offer full UV protection?

What is best?

The windshield is an integral part of the structural safety of the vehicle so I want to ensure the best option available and have it installed properly by the best possible glass dealer.

I'm on my 4th and it's in need of repair!

All made to same specs nowadays.

You must specifiy tint or not on top.

They are so thin it's like seran wrap! Coupled with the angle, is part of the reason they crack so easily! Q#$%@#$%#$%

My friend smacked his head on my window and broke it. (We were parked) So they are very easy to break.

AdamIsAdam, My KJ glass is still a virgin so I want to get it right the first replacement.

I heard PPG or OEM glass is good but I may opt for the Level III bullet proof resin for drives in da hood and off road!!!

I just got mine changed a couple of weeks ago. To my knowledge all OEM has the UV sunscreen but none of them really work the way that they are suppose to LOL. I like the OEM but that is just my $0.03.

When i took mine to the dealer for replacement it cost me 293, and they used Plinkington glass. Looks the same, except there is a 2" blue strip at the top of the glass.

If you can find one get it HEATED. That is the best option I have seen yet. I am not sure if you can even get then in the US or not.

note it says "HIS" head on the window :D so nothing kinky was going on that time. I'm not gonna say it hasn't happened with a "her" head hitting the window :)

Mine have the Chrysler logo on them, but when I had the windshield replaced it was replaced with a PPG one. Paid about 130 dollars out the door.

Eddo, That is cheap I think... was that your insurance deductible or was it the cost of the glass alone?

Sean, Blue strip on top is fine by me.. better in reducing glare from the sun.

Mine currently has the Chrysler logo on it too.

Jinstall, can you get a heated one like the Subarus? It will need a hook up to electical and wiring but that would rock!!

Myke, you need to get your girl a helmet!!!  Just razzing you!!!

130 was the cost of the glass and install. Didn't use insurance. It included a 1 year warrenty against any crack or chip for any reason, along with a lifetime warrenty against workmenship or defects.

I actually called around and all the shops where withing 10 dollars of each other and said they used OEM quality glass. So far no problems and it's been over a year.

PPG glass is great...I have had their replacements on other vehicles and seemed to hold up better than factory OEM ones. Well and PPG (Pittsburgh Plate Glass) is just down the road from my parents house and I'd rather spend the money to someplace that makes them locally...
