Guys,

Following on from the thread about ball joint failures I want to replace my stock parts with the Moog parts I have heard about. Have a few questions though:

Are these direct replacements? Meaning do they just fit right in?

Heavy duty? Would you recommend these over OEM parts?

Any ideas about a good supplier? And do you know the parts numbers?

Cheers

Yup, they fit right in. I know a good guy...www.jeepinbyal.com  He's got them on his site. I'm getting mine from him when they go.

I don't want to take sales away from JeepinAl--he's a great KJer--but I feel like I should let you know of some other options.

About halfway down the page.

Bear in mind that JeepinAl can provide experience and guidance that the other vendors can't.

Amazon had 5 available (now 3), so I decided to be the guinea pig and order a pair from them. The risk is that there are two different LBJs from Moog with the same part #, one greasable, the other not. So, if the ones I get are greasable, then I got a good deal; otherwise, I'll let you know so that you can avoid making the same mistake.

Wish me luck...

If you want to make sure you get the right part, order from JeepinByAl.

I must of lucked out as I did not know that there were two different ones. I got the greaseable ones this weekend after having the right one almost fall out. Teach me to only check one side! Right side alrady replaced left one in next day or two. They are much more heavy duty that is for sure.

They are bigger internally and a stick up out of the control arm socket a little higher, but they fit in the exact same hole, and have the same diameter as the stock ones, so you could go back the the OEM TRW style joints, but why???

And yes there are 2 different styles, one greasable, and one not. Al ordered 5 of the joints before he found 2 greasable for me. And I could not find any here in the springs. So hopefully whoever you order from will let you continue to order until you get the prized greasable joints.

Also if you do not know how to replace them, it is fairly simple, there is a write up in the tech section.

Hey Guys,

Don't feel bad about taking away business from me, I do it to myself all the time. I set my web site up to give all of you a chance to buy from me at either jobber or a little lower. I have always said I couldn't compete with Summit of Jegs, and I have directed many of you to web sites or local shops where you can with lower costs. I am here for all of you to answer questions and hopefully sell you some stuff. Since I needed to go through all the expense to set up an LLC to sell the a-arms, I decided to try to sell other items. I will always try to give you the lowest price, but when a shop like auto zone buys in real bulk, I can't match their price.

Watch the ball joints. There are a lot of older non-greaseable joints still floating around. The older units are dirt cheap, and I was able to sell some of the newer joints at the old price (almost $15 cheaper) until the warehouse found out that they were selling the new joint at the old prices.

Al

Al, thanks for your continued support here.

Is there any designation from the greasable vs the non greasable ones ie. postix or prefix on the part no?

There is no difference in the part number, you just get surprised when you open the box. I have sent about a dozen back so far.

Al

It doesn't hurt to spend a few dollars more to help support a fellow Jeep KJ owner compared to corporate auto parts dealers.

Al, if I find myself in need of those Moog's, I'll come calling, I'll give DC a chance to correct my issue with the Ball Joints only once (if I encounter B-joint problems down the road), then look to the Moogs.

I would rather pay $75 instead of $50 for better customer service like Al has.

Does anyone have pictures of the greaseable one versus the non greaseable Moog Ball Joints for comparison please?

Sounds like a pain to have to order them and hope to get the serviceable ones... can't we somehow describe the greaseable one to the order person and have them confirm the part description?
