Carling switches!

Anybody know where to get these switches? Fleabay is full of 'em, but after shipping they're like $15 apiece!

Basically, just looking for 4 or 5.

couple of different kinds of switches but look and performance of what you are looking for

Now I just need to figure out this momentary, on/off/on on/off, SPDT, SPST, DPST, DPDT and all that crap means!

Momentary I'm assuming means only stays on as long as you hold the switch...

1. ARB Compressor
2. ARB Front Locker
3. ARB Rear Locker
4. Roof Lights (Long Range)
5. Front Bumper Lights (Fog Lights)
6. Rear Bumper Lights (Removable Hitch Receiver)

I'm thinking on the left side of the dash, in that little strip...but I don't have dimensions for the switches, and they look a tad big.

Alternatively, I was thinking on the shifter bezel, or underneath the HVAC/radio bezel

you are correct about momentary.

here are the rest:
SPST - single pole single throw - basic switch like one used as a light switch in your house. it has two connectors.

SPDT - single pole double throw - this is like a 3 way light switch in your house. it has 3 connectors and you always have continuity thru two of the connectors (usually the middle connector is switched between the other two)

DPST - double pole single throw - this is just like two SPST switches tied together with the same lever. it has 4 connectors.

DPDT - you guessed it, double pole double throw - this is just like two SPDT switches tied together with the same lever. it has 6 connectors.

most automotive applications will work SPST switches, however you can use any of the other switches as a SPST. I have a SPDT with a center "off" on may backup lights. the down position lets the lights come on with the factory backup lights, the center is off and the up position turns them on with or without the ignition.

Partially, but not entirely.

only 2 switches are required for the helicopter mod;)

Only two , so you are not doing the 3rd phase now, or are you holding off until you have Phase one and two working good.

You know Phase three would be nothing sort of awesome when kicked in :shock:

Phase 3 is a long ways down the road. Phase 1 and 2 will tide me over until I get bored with them, then Phase 3 will be unveiled!

I'll be able to go wheeling alone, since I'll be able to extract myself without getting out of the KJ :twisted:

That's not a bad idea, at least you could build a nice panel with plenty of room and it's hidden away. Hmmmmmmmmmmm..................... got me thinking :idea:

This is the first switch on your list. I believe this is the one I'd go with. From the description, it sounds like it will light up when the backup lights would be on.

It says it has no rear barriers between the terminals so you should use insulated connectors unless you solder them. The middle or common terminal should run to the backup lights or the relay for the backup lights. The remaining terminals would hook up to the feed from the backup lights and the other would be from an ignition or a battery +12v source.

I wired my switch so that when it is flipped down the lights come on with the backup lights. In this case, you'd hook the feed from the backup lights to the top terminal (most switches are opposite like this).

I originally had the up position wired to the parking lights so that the lights could not accidentally left on. This proves problematic when using the lights and you don't want the parking lights on or need to be on longer than the automatic shut-off allows. I have since wired it to a +12v source that is always on so i can use the lights at anytime.
