I have carried around my craftsman 3 drawer tool box around since I got my jeep and so far have not found anything to secure it better then rigging up some bungies. Anyone else here carry their tools everywhere? and what is your solution? I would prefer to keep my tool box as it was a gift from the wife and plu I just plain love it. Thanks! |

Velcro.... or if the box is heavy enough, a sticky pad Like you put in toolbox drawers will work.... |

If you ever wheel with the tool box in your jeep, make sure it is secure. Stuff laying unsecured in a jeep during a roll can quickly turn into dangerous projectile. I suggest you bolt it in somehow. |

Id prefer it to be bolted down. I estimate the tool box to weigh in at 100+ pounds easily. I would love to have one of those shelves all J used to sell and just fab up some brackets but they are no longer made. Stingn would you mind posting pics of your setup? Here is mine:

I agree with Inc & liquidxit2 - If you must carry a box (metal or plastic), secure that sucka down! And bunge cords are not going to stop a heavy box from flying around the interior if you should get krazy off road!  At least use rachet straps.
Personally, I carry canvas (military style) tools bags Which I secure in place. I figure cloth won't hurt as much if I get hit upside the head as a metal or plastic box will!! Fwiw, you don't have to get rid of the box, it could be your garage box and carry something safer as I do - Or not. |

good thread! i just bought a Kobalt black toolbox identical to your craftsman one, and have not figured a way to secure it yet, it keeps sliding around. i wish jeep would have put tie downs closer to behind the seat on the floor in addition to the ones they have at the rear of the cargo area. i know they have them on the back of the seat too. |

That is my mobile box I have a MUCH larger tool box system in the garage. I like how TJKJ has it, how much for that setup? Im assuming its a rocklizard one? Like I said the All J rack looks like it would be perfect(and Identical to TJKJ's) for me but the price and having to get 9 other people for a group buy kinda stinks. |

My interior rack was made by Tomkin,sadly they no longer make them,it was cheap and light,RL is developing one.I bolted my tool box down using "L" brackets,gotta be very careful since the gas tank is right underneath,it's real fun threading those nuts on also,kinda no room to get your hand up there if you have the gas tank skid.

liquidxit2, I don't have a tool box bracketed down...but in my old truck I had 2 subwoofers and a tackle box in the back with little L brackets from Home Depot or w/e supply store...make sure they dont bend easily and just drill holes in floor and tool box, then bolt it to toolbox and take a metal screw to the floor and bingo...its down! |
