Post subject:  Aftermarket UCA necessary?

I have my F. Premium II and 265/70/16(4" backspacing) Dunlop Mudrovers on order and spidertrax! I am trying to figure out if i need to upgrade my UCA to AL's. I wont be doing any serious offroading. Just driving around out in pastures, dirt roads and small rocks. I really don't feel like blowing another $400 if it isnt completley necessary. But If i do need to upgrade my UCA's i would rather get it done now while i have everything broken down.

Thanks for the help.

I have the same lift and did not upgrade. I asked when I ordered my lift if it was necessary and I was told not really. I am sure others will tell you otherwise, but in my opinion unless you are going to do some real heavy off-roading use the 400 bucks for something else.

off roading has NOTHING to do if you need them or not I don't think. I drove it daily and off roaded mine for 70,000 miles and did not have one problem. When I swapped mine out they (the stockers) were still good and in use now on two other KJs.
Now alignment wise its way easier, with the stockers I was maxed out, with the JBAs I still have some leeway to go.

If I had to do it over I would of swapped them out sooner though just for the ability to grease them and also better more true alignments

Al J'S mentions the heavy durability of the a-arms for offroading on their website. This maynot be the only or most important reason, I think its number 5 of a list of 6, but I am NOT totally wrong. Really there are plenty of peopel out there running stock arms. If clearance is the issue after your lift instal then the new arms are a must.

The severe angle and possible contact with the spring caused the boot to rip, and eventually caused the ball joint to look like this!

Either keep a close eye on your stockers, or upgrade to the JBA 4.5's and not have to worry about your wheels folding over!

I bought my Jeep used, and the original/previous owner said he installed the lift soon after he bought it. Ball joint failed at 60,000 miles
