Leather Seat cracking

Hi all

The leather on my seat is beginning to crack @ only 40k. I was curious if this would fall under warranty? I regularly used leather wipes to clean the seats> http://www.weiman.com/faq/test_5.php

mine are fine at 42K
only had liberty since August. I use Zymol leather cleaner and Zymol cream conditioner on my leathers. Used the same in my Outback that I had perviosly and those leathers looked great when I traded it.

If there is a defect in your leather then yes it may be covered if you are under total bumber to bumper warranty. What year is your Jeep? Mine is a 2006, in the US that year only had a 3 year/36,000 mile

2007 Rocky Mountain Ed. The cracking is only in one spot. Will pick up some conditioner ASAP.

cleaner is nice but you have to use the conditioner too. Leather is/was skin off a cow's stupid, treat it like your own skin. wash it with a damp warm cloth and a gentle cleaner like you would your face. when its dry and warm rub in some leather condotioner like the Zymol conditioner.

Those cow's gave their hide so you could have a great seat to park ur bum in..... show some appreciation man.

I've used Zymol on leather furniture that saw heavy use and it worked great. It might darken the color a bit but the protection is worth it.

I used the Weiman stuff....can't say I was too pleased.

Now I use Armorall Leather cleaner/conditioner. Couldn't be happier.... :mrgreen:

Get it conditioned properly then throw a butt blanket on them seats! A seat cover that is, :-)r

It'll protect 'em from the sun and keep them from cracking. I have 107K on my Renny and the seats are creased but not cracked. I've had a cover on there since close to day one. :wink:

I see no reason why to have a seat cover on leather seats unless they are looking really bad. The whole point of having leather seats is to enjoy them, not cover them. During the winter in northern states, a cover might be nice since leather seats get really cold. If you have the seat warmers........

I agree.

I do keep a cheap seat cover rolled up under the drivers seat that I use when I am working on the jeep like doing an oil change or something so I don't get anything on the leather but when I am done I take it off.

Just a suggestion but personally I hate leather seats because of the care and maintenance required (I'm lazy) and the fact that they are hot in the summer and cold as heck in the winter (without butt warmers or before they kick in)!

I have 77k on my leather and I don't treat them with conditioner more than once per year. I am in Vegas so the lack of humidity may help or hinder the decomposition process for leather. I do the same in the wife's Volvo and they are fine too. It's a 2000 with 175k on it. Someone once told me that if you condition leather too much it can actually make it too soft and will tear quicker. I don't know if there is any truth to that or not honestly.

I'm not sure what you mean about maintenance. Because there basically isn't any. If you spill something on leather you just wipe it off. If you spill something on upholstery, it's in the cushion before you can even clean it. Just my :2cents:

A garage definitely helps cut down on the damage to the leather seats also.

Except for using cleaner/conditioner no maintenance. I spilled coffee on the drivers seat, wiped it off and you would never know anything was ever spilled. There is not a mark/stain or anything on my leather seats. So actually leather holds up well and repels spilled liquids (coffee anyway) with minimal care. This is my experience anyway.
