Post subject:  Exploding taillight bulbs?? LED bulbs?

What's up with this? About a month ago both taillight bulbs (3157's) were out, pulled them and one had a hole in it?? Other one was just burnt. I replaced them both and bought a couple spare just in case. Well I just replaced another one that had burnt, looked like it almost blew a hole through it too.
Has anyone successfully replaced these with LED bulbs? If you did, are they working out? Lasting longer? Did you have to replace the flasher?
Thanks,
Forest

1- can't replace flasher with a HD unit its integrated with the hazard switch in the dash

2- all of my tail light bulbs are LED, had one entirely go bad after about a month, i sent it back and they sent me a new one

the leds are brighter, "should" last longer, aren't as sensitive to vibration, not as sensitive to moisture because they don't get hot

any led in the brake/turn signal system will cause a fast flash due to a lack of load on the switch

a pair of resistors can be installed to the trailer harness and will fix the turn flash rate when your foot is OFF the brake

can fix the brake-ON fast flash but it's a pain in the bootox

plus.. fast flash when you apply the brake is kind of like a built in turning warning (they make kits to make your BRAKE lights flash which isn't for me)

They should have maybe kept the same style, with the LED's behind
the tinted lens.

Then I would purchase them.

if you want the same style with led behind the stock, it's just a matter of ordering the bulbs, wont quite be as bright as Rips

but it'll be dang bright

you won't last long digger haha... all my lights in my KK have been changed besides my two interior mirror lights.. and thats cause i forgot about em, they will be changed soon... even my turn signals are diff bulbs... brighter ( made by sylvania, they look blue but light up amber), and my headlight and fogs are 6000K HID's... i even added the demon eyes which are 8000k... the lights are much nicer... you started with the yellow bulbs and hid's... you just wait...

Boy I'm glad I'm not the only one with this mystifying exploding tail light problem. My left rear tail/brake light bulb lasts about two weeks (three if I use the long life version). There is not a moisture problem that other sights (PT Cruiser clubs also have seen this issue) allude to. I checked the bulbs in the right side assembly to make sure there isn't some proprietary bulb that should be used (there's no problem with that side). To no avail of course. I thought that perhaps the bulb could be installed with the wrong electrodes aligned in the socket. But they only go in one way. Besides, if that was the case the brightness would be different from left to right. There must be some sort of surge being created. When I purchased new bulbs today, I was told there was a customer with a late model Mercedes just a few days earlier with the same problem. This might be something that the engineers at Jeep could only answer. It seems to be industry wide.

it's more than likely a sign of the flasher/hazard switch aging - most logical source for the source of spikes in the flasher system

or a bad taillight board

or.. Several other things :(

Ive been running LED replacement bulbs for over a year now with no problems. If I could separate the Taillight lens and taillight housing I can make some LED using the stock housing easy. Just don't know how to get the two apart with out tearing it up.
