Yes, that is the idea. Hang 'em high and let 'em be an object lesson to anyone else who might have the same idea. Thats the way we deal with these types out west (or at least, the way we USED to do it). I HATE people who think anything in the world is fair game to them ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I second that - did the alarm go off, do you know? (supposedly, if it's been tampered with, it will honk when you go to unlock it when you get back) I've been through a number of car break-ins (3 in under a year), and they are never fun. Luckily none so far on the jeep, but I hope the factory alarm is enough to at least slow them up a bit. |

Stories like that make me glad I have an aftermarket alarm with a shock sensor. Probibally one of the best things I have put into my Jeep in my eyes. It sucks, but it could have been worse for you. Glad to head he didnt get far with it. |

I got ??? Do you have a pic? Did it cause damage to the door and how much? The reason I ask is because I live in South Texas and I learned my lesson on my chevy truck. lucky for me, my guy was a pro and barley made a mark, The cleanest job ever. Everyone else I know suffered terrible damage to the door and handle. My guy was so clean I actually was not pissed after losing many dollars worth of stuff and my half drank camel back. I was actually thankful. He did leave a DNA sample and I did see him, when I see him again, I'll get a match! Anyway I don't lock my truck anymore no matter what! It ain't worth the damage. I hate to leave my libby unlocked too, but I will because it ain't worth the hassle of minor damage. I keep everything I have chained and individually cable locked to its own link and to each other in a big wad. Unless they steal the whole jeep (which is better) they will spend a long time cutting each Item loose, including my ice-chest Thanks ![]() |

What a giant pantload! Freakin' thieves. Forget the rope, I like a nice decapitated thieve's head on a spike to ward off anyone else who might think about it. I believe that's an 05 Renny in your avatar, eh? They didn't steal it because you have the "Vehicle Immobilization Device." It shuts the motor off if started without the key-chip. Potentially lowers your insurance a bit too (it did mine anyway). |

well.. old saying my dad used to tell me.. a lock only keeps out the honest man no lock or alarm is 100% perfect... has anyone ever seen that show on discovery where the guy breaks into houses and then comes back and shows the people how to setup better system/locks.. thats a good show.. but anyways.. the stock alarm should of atleast went off.. unless they cut the power.. my old alarm in my old car had a safety if they cut power it would still go off.. |

Ok....from a Law Enforcement point of view....here's what you do.........first, go and buy two shot guns....no buck shot....just slugs, then saw one down so you can fit it into your KJ and rig it up so if the door is opened without the key it fires.....then take your second shotgun...again...no buckshot, just slugs....and assign a duty watch schedule amongst your family.....I like the 3 8 hour rotation....you for 8 hours...then your wife...then your kid....that'll cover the 24 hour period.....assign a firing order enlisting anyone on duty to fire a warning shot "at" anyone within 10 feet of the KJ and kill shot at anyone who touches the KJ....admirers will pass by...however it must be understood that ADMIRATION at 10 feet and 1 inch is nessecary. Your local Police are correct that this is a popular form of entry into Chryslers...however from my experience, its usually kids and they seem to like the DC mini vans more then Jeeps of any kind....sorry to hear that happened...hopefully your insurance isn't being a snob about it and helping you out. Best of luck. ![]() |

So something might have scared them away You can thank the keyfob for that. The keyfob has integrated transceiver which you need for the engine to continue to operate for more than 5 (or is it 10?) seconds. This is new for 05+ models. |

Post subject: | the correct way to deal with a theif |
I'm sorry if I offend anyone but I had my jeep broken in to and while it wasn't stolen they took items out of it. My thought is screw the rope; forget the shotgun find the SOB that did it. Shoot him/her (must be politically correct) in the leg with a 22 (this is so he/she can’t run but will not die from this injury) hit the other leg with a baseball bat at the knee repeatedly until the knee is broken. Stick broken door handle in his mouth because at this point his screams are getting annoying. Proceed to move on to their arms, a nice hammer will work a single hit to both elbows. Now for the fun part make a sign that states what this fine individual did and take him back to his buddies (you did get this information before you put the door handle in right?) with the sign. Finally as your leaving shoot the SOB in the head. |

So you know how they have fuel-cutoff switches for theft-prevention? They have a little valve that you have to operate after you turn on the ignition in order to allow fuel to pump to the engine, and usually the switch is hidden. Here's what I'm proposing: An automatic timed self-destruct mechanism with hidden disable switch. How it works: Some sort of explosive in the vehicle, combined with auto-lock doors and windows. It is on a timer of maybe 30 seconds to 1 minute. There will be a warning alarm and flashing light, accompanied by a warning sticker. If the cutoff switch is not activated within the appropriate time window, the doors/windows shut and lock and the vehicle explodes. I suppose just a sticker that says "WARNING: THIS VEHICLE CONTAINS AN ARMED SELF-DESTRUCT DEVICE WHICH MUST BE DISABLED BEFORE OPERATION" will do it. However, just be glad that you don't drive a Mercedes S-Class with Biometric Locking: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/4396831.stm And that you don't live in South Africa: http://www.cnn.com/WORLD/africa/9812/11/flame.thrower.car/ http://www.gettingit.com/article/69 ![]() |
