Post subject:  little red light?

Hello all
this might be a stupid question, I just got a 2002 liberty sport a couple of days ago ( traded in my dakota quad cab 4x4 sport) anyway I noticed that when I lock the jeep using the remote that a red light flashes on the left hand side of the dash. It flashes for a few seconds then stops. Now I also noticed that when I try to open the door while it is locked the light flashes. Is this some type of anti theft device?
thanks , by the way love this forum glad I found it ...oh an I love my liberty!

I have the same thing in my 04, it's more of a theft deterant because I didn't get the factory alarm & still had the light, when I used my remote to lock the doors it would blink off & on like it had an alarm, & yes welcome to the LOST world

Welcom to LOST

The easiest way to check if you have the factory alarm is to sit inside, lock the doors using the key fob, and then open the door. If the horn and lights start going crazy, you've got the factory "security" system. No bump sensor so it won't go off if someone just taps it. Does have an imobilization so if someone tries to start it without the microchipped keys it will run for about 10 seconds and then cut off all electrical power (no starter motor, no juice for the spark plugs).

I might be wrong after seeing the above post. I would check to see losttourist. When i lock mine with the key pad, it blinks like crazy for 30sec then on and off every 5sec or something like that. After it stops flashing like crazy for 30sec, the system is armed. Then open the door and see what happens.

If you go to Jeep's website and get to the "contact us" on the bottom right, then click "I need customer assistance" and send them an email asking for a copy of your build sheet. Don't forget to include you VIN number. They email you back a list of everything on your Jeep. Pretty cool service and they respond quickly. Then if you have questions on how something works you can either come here :D or go back to their site and click on the "I need an owner's manual" part.
