The last two times I have used full time 4WD I've had difficulty having it full disengage back to 2WD. This is not my first Jeep; but even though I have moved the xfer case lever fully forward at low speed and the FULL TIME light goes out, and PART TIME light is also out, it will get stuck in 4WD HIGH because it really will bind in a parking lot. Even with the fluids at operating temps and shifting back to FT and into 2WD, a couple times it was still sticking. Today I had to finally fully shift Trans & xfer case to Neutral to have it re-engage properly. Any suggestions?? About to have Trans fluids and filters changed at 60K. But already had Synthetic BG products put in diffs and xfer case at 40K. Thanks

put it in reverse, back up a little bit til it pops back into 2wd and you're ready to roll.

Are your tires all worn evenly? If they are not you will have problems shifting in and out of 4HI FT.

This is common for the NP242 transfer case. The shift fork is not fastened to the shift shaft. It's floating and a spring makes it move when all is right. I have a 06 CRD KJ and a 00 XJ both with the NP242 transfer case and they both act the same way.

As mentioned your tires should be all the same brand and wear and inflated the same. But that does not work for my two
Here's what works for me every time on both of my jeeps While moving instead of going straight from full time to 2 WD, pause in part time for about a hundred feet then shift to 2 WD Works every time for me. For me nothing else works Backing up does not do it, bliping the pedal does not do it, shifting to neutral does not do it, shutting it off over night does not do it. My CRD as far as I can tell will stay in part time forever when shifted from full time to 2 wd.
I suspect that ATF is not the best thing to use in these cases but have not tried anything else. I did a couple of searches on the WWW and found another vehicle maker uses the same or similiar transfer case and they don't use ATF in them. Maybe 10W motor oil or something, I don't remember for sure.

Last March I had one of my Cooper Discoverer ATR's shredded by shrapnel on I-25 in a blizzard had replaced it with identical and had matching new rear tires, and have been rotating the 3 survivors between themselves after regular tire rotations. So right now my survivors are back on the front axel with about 30K on them and the newer matching rears have 15K.

My experience with 2 different set of the ATR's are that at 25-30000 miles, they are worn out. How are yours holding up?

Could the Aztecs have known, that in 2012 after a 4 year experiment, our country would cease to exist?

I always used to stop to make the shift from 4hi to 4 lo, and the high lows to 2wd. The manual actually states you should be moving at about 3 mph to make the shift.

Not too bad actually, I haven't been able to take the tank on many trails as planned. But between 50/50 highway and suburban commuting at 40-44 psi they wear really even and not too loud. Not the greatest on snow or ice but better then the Goodyears; could be all the torque... Can't complain I think they're rated for 40K and I'll get at least 45K out of mine. Plenty of tread left
