In the January Off Rad Adventures Magazine from 4 Wheel Parts, they review the new Commanche. I thought you guys would like to see what they say about us as well............

" Jeep has rested on its haunches for quite a while now. The TJ Wrangler is well overdue for a revamp. The Grand Cherokee has received a recent re-do, but who can tell? And as for the Liberty, well, it's a special Jeep for special people."

Wow, we're SPECIAL! I guess since my Libby and me are both special, I have to buy my parts from a special place, rather than just a plain ole 4 x 4 shop huh?

I got that magazine and read that too...kinda weird. O well, they never have seen us wheel. O and by the way...its a Commander not a Commanche

I've never had a good experience with that company even when I owned a CJ and a wrangler, so nothing is really lost. Take your business to a small 4x4 shop that you like. Price shouldn't be the most important thing when you buy something. Unfortunately most people only care about how cheap they can get something and not about supporting the places they enjoy going to.

This got me so fired up that I sent them a nice email:

To whom it may concern,

I am writing this letter in regards to your article about the 2006 Jeep Commander in the January issue of Off-Road Adventures. On page 12, you made this statement: "Jeep has rested on its haunches for quite a while now. The TJ Wrangler is well overdue for a revamp. The Grand Cherokee has received a recent re-do, but who can tell? And as for the Liberty, well, it's a special Jeep for special people." I don't where you came up with the idea that a Liberty is "special" and that "special people" drive them. In fact, I am a Liberty driver myself. The fact that you think that because the Liberty has IFS, it is "special" is ridiculous! I personally think that you have not seen what the Liberty is capable of. I urge you to take a look at www.lostkjs.com and see what the Liberty is all about. This statement however, is not only ridiculous, but childish and immature. Because of this statement and the previous actions of 4 Wheel Parts Wholesalers against Liberty owners, I will NEVER buy anything from them. I wish I could buy from them because of their massive catalogue of off-road parts, but until the Editor and "C.S. Adams" grow up and quit with these childish statements, I will stay firm with my statements. Thank you for your time and I hope to put these matters behind us eventually.

Signed,

Richard

I hope that sheds some light.

Should all use the same message and send it to them using each of our own names....and perhaps LOST member number. When the masses speak, that gets editors ears perked.

why would you want to buy parts from a company that "specializes" (no pun intended) in Jeep parts that doesn't know or care to share the fact that the Wrangler did in fact just get a new face? or the line where they talk about the new GC not being much different from the old one...hmmm new drivetrain, new front suspension design (although IFS and straight axles do look similar...right), totally new body, better interior, new 4x4 system (you must admit the electronic limited slips are a neat idea)...yeah barely different. Without the liberty comment I would be wary of buying parts for my 4x4 from a place that can't see these differences... Do you think they know that the Commander is basically a GC? (even built on the same line sharing many parts (including suspension and drivetrain). The Commander is cool and all, but i'd rather have a GC because its smaller (if you were on the trails with us in Gilbert-you know what I am talking about).

I recvd last month's copy of JP magazine (I know, but I subscribed before I knew any better) and counted no less than 5 seperate slams against the KJ in the magazine. I sent them a letter telling them to cancel my sub, refund my balance and then I got nasty.

Better still is to complain to the advertisers or manufacturers that they sell....

I have an idea... Why not start our own KJ Magazine? Between the members here on this board and the 1000's of other KJ owners around the US and the world, it should do pretty good... Between the tech articles that people have written.. Off roading stories.. National and Regional runs.. What do you think? This would show how "SPECIAL" the KJ is...

First off you would make no money on it as we are a very small niche. Yes Liberties are fairly common but I doubt that they have enough following to warrant a magazine... Since there are relatively few products available to us, advertising would be hard to find (most newspapers and magazines draw a good amount of funding from advertisements rather then subscriptions). The only way to make big money off of advertising is to have a big circulation. If one were to get it going it would probably be a quarterly deal to cut down on printing and the price would be astronomically high compared to other 4x4 rags leaving you with few if any subscribers. Don't get me wrong...I love the idea but feel it is impractical and unlikely.

L.O.S.T. = Liberty Owners SPECIAL Team

Maybe they got it right? We must be pretty special people to put up with,
make the best of, and or improve the KJ's shortcomings and then wheel them hard and enjoy them. No? :)

hey jjskj, when I read this post the other day, I related their use of the word "special" to our acronym....I was wondering if it was a shout out to us and if so, could be taken as a compliment or at least recognition....

I'm reluctant to bellyache every time someone disrepects the liberty....makes us look like crybabies....and perpetuates the cycle....let's keep the LOST image positive and "can-do"....

I agree with the advise to shop at the local parts stores and the folks like "boulderbars" who provide good stuff for the KJ....that will be my way to improve our reputation....

To ManicMechanic: The New Wrangler was just unveiled. The articles for this magazine were probably written quite awhile ago, to get it all edited, printed, and then distributed. If you recall, the Comander was featured in picture form at least on the Jeep Website for quite a while. They are just now talking about it. I have learned from writing in school newspapers that it is VERY difficult for small publications to be up to the minute with the news. That's why we have the internet. I'm not defending their editorial views, just shedding light on how the process works.

Did you see that letter from the ex-KJ owner - about all the "whiney" Liberty owners? He’s all tough now; he has a Rubicon – I guess his manhood was included in the deal on the TJ. The guy obviously has some mental issues...

That last issue of JP brought me back - I hadn't visited here in a while and I remembered what a great bunch you all are. I like JP in some cases, but the Liberty bashing is getting to be a bit too much.

I have a TJ, but I also know my KJ is all Jeep and I’ll defend that statement ‘till the end!
