Ok, as some of you may have read, I got whacked by a flying truck hoos a few weeks ago. Well got my new front (and rear) blinkers yesterday (Thanks Mike!!) and installation was a snap!! 5 minutes. Then I tried the blinkers.... Still no action. So I looked at the bulbs (Had replaces the sma,, side bulb) and the bigger one had some corrosion on the contacts in the housing. Grabbed a wee file and scuffed it up. Still nothing. Tried some dielectric grease, still nothing.
They operate as pawking lights fine, but when I hit the blinker, I get nothing. I figure since there was that corrosion, something may have gotten shorted out somewhere and grounded? Or just icky somehow. It definitly only happened when I got hit, not before, and only since. Any ideas? I pulled the housings apart, no wires look frayed, and the contacts don't look deformed. Any else had similar issues? Also, do you think the bulb housing is a typical part I could find at a parts store? Thanks!!
Benny

You didn't say if both right and left blinkers don't work or just one side? If it's just one side try swapping the actual turn signals right to left to see if the prob is in the signal assy or elsewhere. If neither side works could be a ground wire broken or a bad flasher unit. Do the 4-ways work?

If one light out: check fuses, replace bulb, check ground
If lights work, but no blink, replace turnsignal fuse (big cylindrical one)
If nothing works, possible bad switch, short in system.

Remember that there's a seperate fuse for each side.

Thanks guys!! Didn't think about swapping side to side. Yes the left one works fine and yess the lights light but not flash. But the REAL right side does flash, just real fast. With the corrosion I saw, I'm liking the bad ground idea... but I'll check the fuses too to be sure.

Well I kinda fount the problem. After switching the housings, and checking fuses, I figure it's gotta be wiring. If you follow the harness around from the blinker, it goes up, then down inside the bumper, in FRONT of the steel bumper support (between the plastic and metal) right above/next to the tow hook. Guess where my bumper got whacked with the truck hood? Right there. I felt around, the plastic wire tube stuff is all smashed. Looks like the bumper will have to come off so I can find the damaged wire and splice/solder it back together. Anyone got a stock 04 bumper for sale cheap? Mine's already cracked and has 4 holes in it...

Well last weekend I swapped out my bumper shroud and fixed the broken wiring from my encounter with the hood of a dump druck I had this fall.

Here's a few pics.

My bumper getting delivered!! (sorry it's sideways...)

My poor poor jeep getting a whole two feet of garage space for the job.

No bumper, testing the wiring before re-install.

Here's the grill. Only one mounting tab left! The rest were broken during "the incident". Anyone got a cactus grill laying around?
Image

Here's the wiring patch I did.

I don't have a finished product pic, but it looks like a regular KJ with one fog light missing...[/list]

I'm sure you have found your problem...if you still get no joy with it....try taking it down to the dealership and having your vehicle computer flashed and reset....worked on one of our cruisers at work...my cruiser turn signals suddenly stopped working after we "assisted a vehicle to pull over"....but nothing wrong electrically...our mechanic reset the whole system...(grrrrr had to reset the clock and the stereo presets :x ...HAHA!!) but they worked fine after that.?? Good luck
