Post subject:  Help with the roof rack!!!!

OK here is the deal....few days ago I got hit from behind and now my spare is all crooked (spell check?) and sits at an angle. What I was thinking was to transfer the spare on top and shave off the bolts off the gate.
For anyone out there who has done that, What is the brand of the roof basket/rack you used. And also what did you use to mount the spare on the basket. Also how much did you pay for it. Let me know if any would interfere with the light bar on top. Also my KJ is 02 sport with the factory side rails.
I appreciate the help and I did search the forum but just could not find what i was looking for. Please do not get mad

Thanks

Shak,

Just a bit of advice. I had my spare on the roof of my ZJ because I wanted to free up the room in the cargo compartment. This ended up killing my gas mileage as became a pain to take it down and put it back up. It also significanly raises the CG of the vehicle which is not good for off roading.

With that being said I think most of the major rack makers have kits to mount a spare tire. This will also significantly cut down on the usefulness of the rack.

Just my $.02

Shak, OH NO! How bad is the damage? did it mess up the duals and the trailer hitch? any body damage? I hope you and the KJ are alright.

we are all good....the gate is a little dented in. my bodyshop guy said he has to tie it to a truck and pull out the dent and also the tire carrier bracket is all buckled up and needs replacement which is 70 dollars. so i thought i might as well invest in a roof rack and move the spare up there
