I was talking to one of the parts suppliers for the new wrangler. The CRD version is being made in the US, but being shipped outside the US tobe sold. Rumor has it that it is because they haven't upgraded it to meet the new emmissions requirements

What will be interesting is if the CRD Liberty dissapears in 2007. The new fuel specs go into effect next year which in theory would make it easier for the auto manufacturers to meet the emission standards. However the tree huggers convinced the feds to also raise the tail pipe emission requirements at the same time effectivley negating the ability of the auto manufacturers to easily offer more diesels in this country. 2007 could see the end of the light passenger diesel or the beginning of the diesel revolution in the US. It will be interesting.

Why the diesels here in europe are way more advanced than what is in the US. The 06 KJ here all come with particle filters as required. Most diesels here are as green or greener than gasoline powered cars.

Emmissions is stupid. The politicians always overlook the fact that diesels consume way less fossil fuel to begin with. That alone should be reason enough to keep them around.

I thought I read somewhere that the feds will raise emissions levels for diesel but the CRD was designed with this in mind so it will comply when the lower sulpher (is that right?) diesel becomes available. Wasn't the CRD designed for the low sulphur diesel in Europe?
