Well, another one bites the dust.
While washing the jeep today I noitced a few drips.
I thought, "ok, its probably just water dripping off it"
I move the kj back to its normal spot on the sided of the drive way, it keeps dripping.
Not worried yet, its still drying.
2 hours later, its dripping still. I start the kj, it leaks even faster.
Now I'm angry. Don't need a busted rad a week before jeep beach.
I take the fan off, try to clean it while I'm at it.
I look over the radiator and see nothing.
I squeeze the top hose and I hear a gurgling coming from the passenger side of the radiator under the side cap thingy.
Check the tank, about an inch and a half of coolant is in there, so, there essentially nothing in it.
Put the fan back on, lay under the jeep looking for where its coming from, can't find a source.
no hoses are leaking, water pump is good, it seems like its leaking from no where.

Now I am pissed. There has never been any water or mud get into the radiator. Well, except for rain and some on the rad when I wash the jeep. But its cool when I wash it.
This radiator was put in, brand new when my engine was installed, back in january.
Why would it be leaking AGAIN????
The last radiator did the same thing before the engine died. But there was always coolant in the last one. The only time it leaked all the coolant out when the engine blew was 2 days AFTER the engine did blow.
Is my jeep just cursed for bad radiators for life or something??

Would there possibly be a warranty on this radiator??
I need a new one before next weekend, I need it replaced asap.

where did you get the Rad from, and who did the install? IIRC all Mopar parts installed by the dealership have a 1 year waranty. That's how I repalced all my window regulators until the last one.

Dealership didn't do the install and I have no clue where the radiator came from.
Tomorrow I'm going to go through all the paperwork I got when the engine was put in to see if there's anything in there.
If not I am going to call the guy who did it and ask him if theres any warranty.
There should atleast be a MINIMUM 6 month warranty.

A warranty is all I can really hope for now since I can't really afford a new radiator.

So if you can't afford the new radiator, are you going to drive it like that?

If so hope he reads the warranty on the engine, overheating it from a known failed radiator is not covered.

No.
I'm stuck driving my brothers civic until I get it fixed.

Oh, and the leak is coming from the side tank.
It seems the gasket it leaking due to the crappy type of rad. It has the crimp on tanks instead of the brazed on kind.
So I'm going to try and find a rad shop and try and get it repaired before I got drop $$$ on a new radiator.

A new radiator is cheaper then trying to fix a plastic side tank radiator, even if any place will touch one.

Do they have any radiators for the KJ that doesn't have plastic sides?
This is the second one that has leaked from the EXACT SAME SPOT on the EXACT SAME SIDE.

Are you sure they actually replaced the radiator the first time it was in and didn't throw a band aid on it just to get it out of the shop? Seems strange that it's leaking in the same area as the first one and only 5 months after the install.

Don't know.
I'm gonna take a look at the old radiator when I pick the jeep up.

Posted on another thread but what I gather so far is KJ's have radiator "issues". My girls 02 has been loosing coolant the past few weeks. topped it back off and replaced the radiator cap (long story but it worked when my Chrysler LHS was loosing coolant). But found a crack (what looks like a few) but only one has a pin hole spraying coolant. So, to try and plug it with several coats of high temp/pressure epoxy or just replace it. Time to look for a radiator shop I guess. But do these things have this problem all the time? Design flaw? Hope this isn't routine like changing the oil.

1st you need to replace, there is no fixing it.2nd it's a common issue for all newer vehicles, plastic side tanks just don't hold up like a all metal radiator, and no one makes a all metal radiator for the KJ.

Humm we have a custom radiator shop here in town and they do really good work maybe i can convince him to try and build one for the KJs. I mean he built me and exact copy for my 68 camaro and i can't tell the difference between the old on and the new one except for the petina of course. And all he needed was my old radiator for about a week. So maybe i can pull one out of a junked KJ this week and see if he can build one that is all metal.
