This might belong in electonics, I wasnt 100% sure.

I have decided I want to get rid of the ridiculous antenna on the fender of my KJ. Ive thrown around the idea of mounting a "retro" VW roof antenna in place of my factory sirius antenna. Im just curious if I would still have decent reception, since the antenna isnt amplified. All of the factory roof mount antennas seem to be amplified and use connectors specific to brand of car.

Is it possible to hook up whatever the export models use? I assume its a module/antenna in the A-pillar. Ive searched for the part but can't find anything remotely close. I cant find any parts list for the export models for that matter. Will it even work on domestic models. Will it pick up the same frequencies?? Anyone know where to get one??

So after picking the right words in the search function. I found that the antenna for the exports is the whole right rear window. So that option is pretty much out.

So I guess its either gonna be a nice clean roof mount or aftermarket internal. which do you guys think will work best?

You're referring to one of these;

That's the passenger's side rear quarter window c/w antenna in a Jeep Cherokee CRD (our Liberty) that I spotted in a showroom in Holland. Too bad we can't afford to order one from Europe.

What's wrong with your stock Libby antenna? Does it snap off on you? If so you could replace it with a stubby rubber antenna.

Seems like a lot of trouble to listen to terrestrial radio.

Thats the pic I needed. I wish the US spec KJ used the window for the antenna. I love it. But its definitely not worth the time and money to install one. Especially since my window isnt broken. The standard fender antenna is fine, its just ugly in my opinion. Ive always disliked antennas. I like things to be very symetrical. A very clean look.

Youre probably right. I think Ill research sirius. Ive had it before and really hated it tho. It was years ago, and the majority of driving I did was late at night, but my commercial free radio seemed to be nothing but talk. Lots and lots of late talk shows. Ill look into again tho. If I buy it Ill just pull the stock antenna off and stow the wiring away.

I bent my stock antenna the first time that I took it to a drive through car wash (forgot to remove it). I went to 4West in CA and bought a 12 in. black aluminum antenna. It looks way better than stock since it barely sticks up beyond the hood and it still gets great reception.

If you get one from there, you need the adapter that fits the (I hate to say this) H2. Yes, our antennae use the same thread pattern.

I'll try to get pics posted soon.

I have to be honest, when you first described what you had for an antenna, I thought it wouldnt be anything I would like, however, after your pics, I think this looks fantastic. I think I'm gonna look into getting a new antenna now. I still would prefer it to be deleted completely, but for now, a short antenna might have to do.

thanks for posting the pics. :D

I have actually heard good reviews about the first one. My wife's Volvo comes standard with a windshield antenna and it works great.

The short antenna that I have came from 4West in Colton, CA. I bought it when I lived out west. their website is http://www.4west.com/ although they don't have it listed there. You would need to call them to get one, unless you are (or can be) close enough to go there yourself.

I like this.... I would like to know were I can get one or order it? how much?

I have surius with direct FM so I don't need a great antenna. I only listen to FM once in a great while and AM for travel advisories and local news.
