My tailgate squeaks while driving on the freeway. I can see my spare tire vibrating and thats when the noise happens. I used to have a bumpstop on my bumper that rests against the spare tire to keep it from moving and that stopped the noise for a year. But now when the bumpstop is in place it just make a differn't noise while on the freeway. I have oiled the door catch and removed the plastic panel to see if there are any broken welds or other signs of damage, which there are none. The noise is still prevalent. I do have a 31" tire for my spare and occasionally have my bike rack also attached to it. I haven't tried driveing without the spare on or bike rack on since the noise to see if it goes away or not. So any suggestions as to how to fix this? |

on my 05 renegade, where the window closes to the gate, was raw, metal to metal. so i put some grease on there and no more noise. |

My spare was "ticking" when I hit bumps. I have an '05 and my spare is probably 40 lbs heavier than stock. This weekend it seemed to get considerably worse so I took everything off the tailgate. It closes so much better now and no more ticking. ![]() I plan on having a HD carrier on there in a month or so. /shrug I know people have historically complained about squeaks there and found tiny tears at the bolts, that eventually grow. I didn't want to tear mine up too bad so I pulled it off knowing it won't be long without a spare. |

with the little bigger spare then hanging a bike and rack off of it, I would say thats the main problem. I have had a heavier tire on mine for at least 100,000 miles and NO NOISE at all. I do spray everything ( seals etc. ) with silicone spray at every oil change so maybe that helps. Thought I had a noise once, turned out to be the rear wiper motor running ( took the arm and blade off at 100 miles and threw them away) so could not see it was moving ![]() |

The squeak in the rear of mine was caused by the latch bar on the glass rattling in the latch itself. A small wrap of duct tape and almost a year later still no squeaks from it. |

Mine has rubbed around the latch mechanism and has since the first time I went off-road. Solution? White lithium grease. |

Everything has been oiled. The latch to the glass is not the problem. No signs of any bolt tearing. Don't know what else to do. And don't really want to spend $1200 on a rock lizard steel rear bumper with tire carrier right now. |
