Hey folks, I tried searching previous threads for something similar to this, but couldn't find anything close. I am sorry if this has been covered and ask you to point me in that direction if it has. Ok..... Just bought a used 2005 Renegade 4WD with 45000 miles on it. Looks new, feels new, rides great, engine runs smooth etc.....everything you should expect from a truck with 45000 miles on it. On my way back from picking it up, I tried some hard acceleration and had some problems. The RPMs shot up, but it wouldnt drop to passing gear and the speed wouldnt climb. Check engine light came on and blinked momentarily, but would go off when everything smoothed itself out. This happend twice. I thought the problem resolved itself because yesterday it ran great. Shifted perfect.... Today, I went for a ride and tried putting it in 4WD when I got back to my yard. I followed the manual exactly for shifting. About 15mph...pulled it up to 4HI...worked fine. Slowed to about 2-3mph, shifted transmission to neutral and pulled it up to 4LO. 4LO indicator never came on, and when I tried to put the tranmission back in drive, it won't engage. Now, the 4WD selector handle moves freely like its not connected to anything and no matter what position I put the drive selector in, it feels like neutral. P, R, N, D, 1, 2, are all neutral, and the 4WD selector handle just moves from 2HI, 4HI and 4LO with no resistance at all. I would live insight from anyone that has experienced or heard of these problems. Thank you for reading this very long post from a newbie, and thank you in advance for any advice you can forward to me. Thank you. ***UPDATE*** I found that the linkage to my transfer case broke off of the lever on the transfer case. Thankfully, this should be an easy fix. I was able to put it back into 2HI and it runs perfect. So, keep this in mind if your transfer case selector suddenly goes limp. Thanks. |

Glad to hear your trans. problem should be an easy fix. If I were you I would have that flashing check engine light looked into ASAP, long story short my check engine light flashed like that and it wound up being a broken valve spring that cost me the engine (dropped valve in cylinder). It may just be an exhaust sensor or something minor like that but if it flashes I was told that means a damaging code is being stored STOP DRIVING IMMEADIATELY. |
