So I did my brakes the other day and noticed that one of my Tie-rod boots was ripped. How important is the boot. And if I have to replace it are their any after market ones I can get. And o ya what the heck does a tie-rod do anyway.

Yes the boot being ripped is bad, it will allow dirt, grit and moisture into the joint and make it wear faster.
The tie rid is part of the front suspension, it pushes or pulls the wheel in or out when you turn the steering wheel.
And yes there are aftermarket , Moog is a good brand.

When you go to swap it out, be careful and count the number of turns it takes to remove, install the new one the same number and you're good to go.

shoot some penetrating oil or WD40 on them 24 hours before removing....makes things a lot easier.
