So, since i blew my transmission at silver lake i need some advice.

I have a transmission mechanic that said to rebuild it, it would cost $2600, but he will only charge me $1800. He is my dad's, mechanic's, trans mechanic.
Is that a good deal?

OR

should i buy a trans that is used and put it in myself?

OR

Any other ideas

Please help me. I need my Libby back.

Which tranny do you have and where is your nearest junk yard ? And how much mechanical experience do you have? I know alot of times it is easier to just replace the transmission in these newer SUVs because when they go they destroy everything. And ussually a brand new/reman are ussually cheaper then the labor to repair the orginal and ussually come with a warranty. And i know if i was going to do it i would find me a reman and do a self install and while i had it out put a shift kit in it.
