The best way to track down the cause of this code is to try to find a shop with a specific tool to trace the leak, it's called a smoke machine. It is hooked into the evap system, it generates "smoke", and is the tell-tale where the leak is.

gas cap or in my case it was 2 small tubes back by the firewall on the drivers side, just about the manifold. Dry,brittle and cracked from the heat probably. Replace with some fuel line tubing from Advanced Auto. Could also be some of the tubing down by the gas tank too.

Jeep reset the code. It hasn't come back (yet).
Do I need to do anything?

not if it doesn't come back. it could have been the gas cap not sealed properly.

Very common spot for this is the rubber hoses going into the vapor canister forward of the gas tank, above the axle. I've seen the hose there crack on a few KJ's now.

I had this vaccum leak my second year of owning the KJ. Have heard of a few others getting it as well.

help please.

Just recently replaced all the rubber hoses (many were baaaaaad.) I believe. Traced lines, dropped tank etc. Replaced cap. LDP. Fresh air filter.
442 came back. Cleared it again. Seeing if it comes back. I have gained some ground as I originally had a 455 too.

However, during fillups. After the tank is about half full. The fuel pump will stop each 1/2 to gallon and require resetting nozzle. Continuing till full.
I am wondering if I reinstalled the little green and black valve wrong or it may be bad. This is the one behind the fuel filler for the line that runs to the flow management valve. It is in black side up. It also clicks when shaken. I sure its a cheap part. Dealer parts closed today. I just concerned that there could also be something else wrong.

So, I test the the check valve. It is questionalble at best. There is one just like it that runs to the brake booster. That one doesn't click.
I go to parts stores to no avail. The stealership can't find a picture of it. However, finds "the parts assembly." No picture. $52.00. I could see 5 maybe. I ask if it is the whole filler tube assembly. He can't tell me. Could be the valve and 2ft of 5/16th hose for all he knows. Goodbye. I'll continue my quest. Oh, the 442 is back. I ask if this valve could be the culprit. Maybe....

thank you for any advice and input.
Jeff.
