My brother in law was in the market for a Jeep Wrangler and wanted me to come along to check out the ones on the lots.. So we visited 2 Jeep dealerships in the area.. While he was looking over some of the used TJ's at one of the lots I asked the salesman how the Commander was doing.. He said that he and other salesmen are selling Libertys left and right along with the Grand Cherokee... But the Commanders aren't moving hardly at all.. Well.. We ended up at another dealership and the salesman there said the same thing.. Libertys are selling better then the Commander.. For all the KJ bashing.. The Liberty is a very popular model Jeep... Oh by the way, my brother in law got a really nice 2003 Rubicon with 24,000 miles on it for $19,900... We had it checked out.. It was a killer deal...

Thought you would like to know..

Ben

Metioned before.

The Liberty was the number one small SUV last year.
Outselling the Ford Escape.

The Commander wasn't meant to outsell the Liberty of the Grand, but it is doing well.

Of course, when the Dodge Nitro comes out later this year, there will be more Liberty type vehicles on the street.

Liberty also outsold the Wrangler, but the Grand is still in the lead:

Why would they make an iron transfer case?

This is true............but there are plenty of very strong aluminum t-cases out there. The Atlas II included. No point in adding the extra weight.

According to a press release. The Jeep Commander was created to compete against the Hummer brand. I doubt that Jeep has been dissapointed with the sales of it's latest creation, especially considering the price for a loaded one. I see them everywhere I go in my area.

come to think of it I can't think of a vehicle that still uses a cast iron t-case...

I doubt any commercial vehicles still do. Even military hummers use an aluminum one..NP, can't remeber the model.

Hummer doesn't really sell a lot of H2's, and even less H1s. I think that there are only 10k H1s sold total.

With the gas prices going up, all big SUV sales are going way down.

depends on what you mean by alot. The H2 sells fairly well when compared with the Lincoln Navigator and Cadillac Escalade. The H2 is a vehicle that is just out of reach for most people. It is hard for many of us average folk to justify $50k on a 4x4 when the Tahoe (same frame) will do the job for $10k-$20k less. The reason the Liberty sells so well is it is easy to justify...where else can you get real 4x4, all the options, decent cargo room for less then $30k new? The Liberty and GC are PRACTICAL family vehicles that are reasonably priced. Yes the Commander is a practical family vehicle, but I think it is a stretch from Jeep's current image. The American car buyer is very fickle and doesn't remember things like FSJ's. Most people think of Jeeps as small but capable vehicles. If you ask anyone where I live why the want a Jeep, the answer has something to do with snow...
