Well, ever since i got stuck in the woods, see THIS thread, the "Part Time" idiot light has been on even though i'm in 2WD-hi, and when i shift to 4WD-hi, the light goes off, i'm guessing that the sensor is just a little messed up, anything i can fix myself, or do i have to take it back to the stealership to fix it???

Thanks,
-Savage-

sounds like an ajustment to the light switch on the trans or front axel.

According to the SM, the light is controlled by the PCM. For giggles, you can try to reset it before you have the dealership blow smoke up your tailpipe... cuz you know "damage caused by off-roading is never covered". It will reset EVERYTHING.

Edit: I researched a bit more and you can also check the wiring to the for the two position sensors on the TC. If you need a pic, lemme know. More likely thats your prob.

BTW-was the guy with you at the lift party (forgot his name) Riptide?? Has Jason had to leave his KJ stuck somewhere over night yet?

I had the same problem after Moab last year. It is probably the switch on top of the transmission about the 1000 oclock position looking looking forward from the rear. It is the position sensor that rides on a cam arm in the trans. at each position it sends a resistance value to the PCM. The switch looks like a big nut with the wire disconnect on top. It cost about $60.00 at the dealer. I changed mine and used a crowsfoot wrench I think its about a 1 3/8. also came with a new o-ring. You can reach it from the back. You'll know the size of wrench when you but it. Hope this help.
good luck!

do you think it's shot, or should i be able to just adjust it, hit it with a hammer :D , or something of that kind (that doesn't cost money) to fix it?

The hammer trick could do it. I hit my moms starter when it wouldnt start and its not messed up again since, i showed it!

I don't think hitting it with a hammer is going to work. Electrical sensors are very sensitive hitting it might fix it for a short time or even get worst. There is no adjustment just screw it back on and connect your electrical connection. The sensor is located on the transfer case where the auto trans and transfer case mates about 10 o-clock position. Take it off and if the plunger is binding when you push on then it is a bad switch. The plunger rides on the cam plate and moves up and down according to the 4-wheel drive lever position.
Go for it you can do it.....you know what the dealers say " Pay me now or Pay me later."
