hi guys, been having an overheating problem with my 02 3.7 libby, its hard to no whats wrong because it dosent do it all the time.i can drive for an hour, sit in traffic for ages and its normal but all of a sudden the needle gose up towards red.iv noticed that if i put my foot down to 60+mph, or go up long hills it will start to boil up. if i put the heater on full it dose bring the needle down.i have had it in a garage and they told me it needed a new fan (the one you cant see, between the rad and the main fan) it cost a healthy 400 quid and it still dose it..i can use it for to go to work, run round in it all day sometimes and the needle stays on halfway ,i cant see no leaks and everything looks in order so any help would be great.thanks |

Sounds like thermostat issues. I had Firestone try the water pump repair scam on me once when I had a pickup. I told them I'll think about it and I just replaced the thermostat and that fixed it. |

Rick, did you ever get this solved? My '04 3.7 is doing the same thing. My next option is the replace the thermostat but i'm thinking it's going to have to do something with the fan clutch. Thoughts???? |

hi there, no i never did get to the bottom of the problem, this happened last summer and as soon as the the weather cooled down i never had it happen again. BUT , i could,nt keep on putting money in to the jeep and what with the stupid price of fuel in the uk (£50-£80 a week in petrol!) i decided to get rid of it before any hot weather arrived!! iv now got a 2007 hyundai santa fe 2.2 diesel, which is doing around 33-40 mpg. sorry i could,nt shed any more light on the problem the but it did only happened a couple of times but i could,nt imagine what the repair bill would have been by the time they would have finally solved the problem . |
