I just bought a 2006 Liberty and on my way home from the dealer last night I notice that on shifting the knob seemed to rotate and would hit the console when shifting into 2nd and 4th. Any one else had this problem. Any good recommendations for an aftermarket doo doo boot and shift knob?

I attempted to put an atermarket shift knob on my shifter, but the way it attaches is proprietary to the Jeep. To get it off, you must push down (hard) and turn it 1/4 turn counter-clockwise. It does not screw in. The shifter I bought came with a "universal" mount kit, however I found that the shifter shaft is far too thick for the mounting sleeves and hardware included. Your best bet is to take it back to the dealer, if that was where the problem began, or just get a new shift-knob from the factory or parts department.

I took your advice and got a new shifter assembly. I will put the aftermarket shift knob idea on hold for right now.

is it the knob itself or is it the rubber mount at the tranny. I seem to have the same problem with the stick wanting to rotate and come off the rubber mount its on.

I realize this thread is kinda old, but I recently bought a 6 speed Renegade and noticed that the shaft itself is rotating. That would explain why the boot was out of the notch when I bought it (note to self). Is there any way to put the stick where you want it and make sure it stays there?

All I did was take some rubber sealant/ epoxy and applied it to the attaching point where the rubber mount meets the shifter stick. It works but if it gets hot in the truck (i live in Florida), the glue tends to get soft and will start pulling away.
