Sometime ago I noticed 2 breather like items next to the intake manifold...actually next to the throttle body. I have no idea what it is but I did notice it has some...oil perhaps leaking from them. Just barely. I can only find one picture in the service manual of it but it is not talked about or I am totally missing it. Not unheard of, lol. If you have the manual go to section 14-36 figure 13. On the right side there is a tube that goes from one size to a larger size. The larger side item is what I am curious about. On the VECI label it says it is a crankcase breather but in the service manual the crankcase breather is attached to the heads...or looks like it. Anyone have any ideas what this item is? There is one on each side of the throttle body. Roughly 1" wide and 3" long. The hose that they are plugged into seem to go under the jeep but I loose them at the fire wall.

Just curious if anyone knows what they are and if they need to be replaced from time to time.
Thanks.

Im not 100% sure on the 2002 3.7l, but on my 2006 there are 2 fittings (one per each head) that alleviate crank pressure (kinda wasted as we have a pcv system). Mine has these fittings connecting to rubber and plastic hoses that collect into one and connect to the air filter box. Sadly most autoparts stores in my area do not stock breathers anymore so I am modding something up. If you check in your air filter box on the drivers side of it there may be a tube connecting into the side and on the inside there will be a sponge looking filter. If that is clogged it may cause the leak at the other end. Honestly I would just buy new hose and redo the who system, but some hose clamps and a new breather should do the trick.

Same here. My area stopped carrying parts for older carsa long time ago. so no more breathers, inline fuel filters, etc.

There not a filter, nothing to go wrong with them.If you take it apart(seperate the plastic part from the rubber hoses) you will see what I mean and why they seem to leak oil.

Im wondering is anyone has used a breather filter on them instead of the stock tube system to the airbox.
