I want one, but don't want to pay those high prices. Why doesn't some fabricator (Boiler you listening?) in the U.S. make one just like this in Aluminum. I'll be first in line...

That is aluminum, but I understand your point. They are expensive.

He can!!! I got a custom light bar on my Boiler made aluminum roof rack to accomidate for my putting my snowboards on it. All he needed was the Thule snowboard rack that I was using and a snowboard. He was able to come up with the correct geometry to fit the lights and the snowboards! I think he could accomidate for putting a canopy attachment on if you could find the canopy assembly for him to weld onto the rack. His base large rack can be customized to what ever your needs it just takes some time and a little more cash. :JEEPIN:

that thing is awesome! although i dont really know what all it could be used for. i mean camping it would be nice to stay out of the rain.. but it's not near large enough to put a tent under. it would be outstanding to have a picnic under.. but seems a bit elaborate for that. What idea's do you have for it? im sure there is a lot i'm missing.

I would take one of these in a heart beat i found a few of the two person types for $750 and wonder if they could be adapted to work with the boiler rack.

A while back I contacted Boiler about making a custom rack that would also fit my Yakima snowboard and bike roof racks. But decided to go another route. I am curious to see what you came up with for your Thule snowboard racks and still fit the lights on the front. Any pics of the rack, as I am still thinking of going the custom route when I can afford it.
Thanks.

LI_KJ here you go (its alittle dark)

we bumped the lights out about 7 inches from the front of the rack, where normally he would have the light tabs. He took a measure of the lights that I was going to use gave an little more than an inch clearence to the back incase I ever switch lights. On the main part of the rack he measure for mounting points for the snowboard rack by measureing where the bindings would be in comparison with the snowboard rack. Once that measurement was checked out he then welded mounting points onto the rack to bolt down my snowboard rack.

I will see if I cant get some more photos this evening.

Totally would like to see how the snowboard accessory mounts to the rack. Is the Thule rack you have the clamp type http://www.thule.com/en/US/Products/Sno ... 20Top.aspx
Or is it like the upright style? http://www.thule.com/en/US/Products/Sno ... rrier.aspx
I've got a flat top clamp style with round bar mounts. And the bike trays also use the round mount sound imagine I need a different design.

Post subject:  Re: Hannibal roof rack for the KJ.

Its the clamp type. I did have to make one concession with this project. With the clamp type using the complete Thule rack system (feet, crossrails, and clamps) you can mount 4 snowboards (base to base). With my new rack I can still do that BUT I would have to take the bindings off of two of the snowboards (the ones facing down).

Its raining today but hopefully when I get home from work it stops of lightens up. Either way I will get some more pics up!

instead of pics I found the actual CAD drawings from Boiler, this should give you a better idea......

Even though I have a GREAT rack

anyways I would like to have one like the Front Runner Wind Cheetah slimline roof rack (FRJEP 4006)
made in South Africa
Equipt Expeditions in Utah can get them I think , need to call Paul and make sure

or if anyone could build a nice flat one like that
or........

I think I found my BOILER rack.. That's pretty much exactly what I want..

You can always get a cheap pair of Cross Rails to mount to the top of the rack, so you can mount 4 boards and bindings. (Amazon has a pair for $40.)

How tall are the top of the lights to the roof line?

Also, if you have any other pictures! thanks!! 8)
