Post subject:  Catalytic Convertor Question 2002
I have 3 cats, I know this. I am thinking the drivers side is starting to go out...(Thanks Tom ;)) My question is this...since only the '02-04 was it? have 3 can I remove one and make it a 2 cat system or is it one of those robbing peter to pay paul type things?
In Nevada we do not have inspections, or at least none that I know of. I just have smog each year. *rolls eyes* I know the easiest thing would be to just swap out the one and be done with it but if one is going, I am sure the others will follow soon.

Next question, when you swapped out your cat(s) did you change O2 sensors also? What all did you change when your cat went?

If one is going the others are not far behind,get all 3 and install only NTK O2 sensors.Just replacing 1 will not work and you will be chasing that check engine light.

Never heard of that brand either,I would be wary of them.

Oh and is that something one can do on their own? It is just like swapping out a muffler...right?

Yes you can do it,be prepared for a fun time though,lots of cursing and swearing.Oh and for a '02 they used clamp style flanges from the headers so any stud/bolt style flanges will not work for the manifold side of the mini cats and those clamps are real fun to get to,you will want a short 10mm ratcheting wrench as you must wrench off the nuts the whole way as they are lock-nuts.Heck just disconnecting the O2 connectors is fun,that drivers side upstream is the funnest while trying not to break the wiring harness side connector.

Having just done the drivers side, fun is not one of the words I think of
I finally got smart after 10 minutes and removed the driveshaft for some extra room as well
I replaced both 02's as well
04's have only two cats thank goodness :wink:

Eastern Cat's nothing to be wary of

Between Eastern and Magnaflow it's a tossup, 99% sure they source the same materials

So as it stands...I can get a Magnaflow set for roughly $120 more than a Walker set. Is it worth it? I think we all know Magnaflow but I have heard that Walker is good too and for a Cat...does it really matter?
Or should I go OEM and pay through the nose?

as long as you do it as a set, you shouldn't have any issues - as to magna vs walker, if the sets include the same items, whichever helps you sleep at night or whichever one you'll feel most comfortable with tbh

but throw in new 02's while you're at it

then it'll bug ya for another week or two, till the newness is rode out :P

it'll amaze ya how much racket a vehicle makes that you stop paying attention to.. until you change something major and start listening to all the creaks and pops and ticks again :P

LOL, I only notice the noise when either I am at a drive through or I have the window down and go through a under pass. Then I hear either a rattle or some other weird noise. I have no lights that go off so part of me says hell with it and ride it out. LOL.

Everything I read says 8 years or 80,000 miles.

I gave up keeping up on any of that trash

too many If's and Unless'

one of the cat co's was offering lifetime warranties regardless of the owners originality , with a receipt

but that's been awhile too
