Hi,

I have a KJ 2003 CRD 2.5L with around 73K mls on the clock, since I have own the KJ, now just over 15 month, when changing gears (I have a manual, not autobox) it's gone stiffer and stiffer all the time. In the morning when I turn the KJ on and attempt to put it into 1st gear I need to play around with the other gears. Shiting from 1st into 2nd is quite hard on the move when cold and always generate a clonk!!. Once the car has warmed up a bit ,it get's better but not that much, it feels like the gears are sticking a bit... The clutch isn't slipping at any stage warm or cold.

Any Ideas? Car has been servised by Jeep official dealer in the UK.

thank you,

Fil.

odds are the clutch is not fully releasing.
check the linkage (probably hydraulic - that may be leaking)

Thak you, I will have a look, but as a matter of curiosity, i know it's a Off Road and gearboxes are heavt as a matter of coures on manual (I have a LR siries III and a RR manual), but I would have thought evolution and time would have made them a little more smooth,

Yeah Fil, I have the same vehicle, and have noticed nows its getting into the colder winter months, (Yes...I does get cold in Australia :D ) exacty the same thing, bit stiff to select and change in the mornings until a bit of heat gets into the oil. I have bought, and am yet to put in a friction modifier (Nulon Smooth Shift), I have used it before in other manuals and its works a treat, helps smooth gear changes, takes the clunkyness out. Not sure if you can get "Nulon" brand products there in the UK, but imagine "STP" or one of those other brands will have something the same.

Cmohr,

Are you still experiencing the same problems with you gearbox/clutch? did you resolve them? mine are getting worse and it's getting colder here now (-3C this morning it's winter here in the UK and we have just had the first SNOW!).

Any Ideas please?!

Fil.
