Long time member here and have had my 02 KJ since 2004. ABout a few months ago, the KJ started acting up and after a few trips to the mechanic, I have been told that there are 2 issues with the engine. In the right half, the head is blown and in the left half, one of the sleeves is cracked/sheared. It costs in upwards of 2000 to fix (most likely half labor, laf parts)

Here is where I need your advice. I have other vehicles and dont need to keep the KJ. I will be back in the Jeep world in a couple of years where my finances are more stable. For now, I want to know is it worth spending the money? or should I sell the car as is?

The car is pretty hooked up, it was a sport that I transformed into a Renegade. Has the ARB bumper. Borla exhaust, aftermarket stereo, many more goodies. My goal is to either fix it and sell it or just sell it as is and in either situation net as close as possible 4K.

Please let me know what you all wise people think. Car is in North NJ btw

Well you need to factor in the new owner will have to fix and would be better to opt for a new engine(or remaned) that is looking like about $4000+.Also not alot of banks will finance a vehicle with a bad engine so be prepared to sell at $2000.The add ons add no value, they actually decrease value over a stock vehicle.

I would certainly part it. I dont think its worth repairing and then selling. I think the car would go for about 5500-6000 fixed so asking 3500-4000 in the shape it is shouldnt be too bad. If I part it, I should be able to get my asking price and maybe more but who has the time and energy to deal with that. I am certainly not taking things off and shipping them

Well, let's see: A 2002 had better be paid off by now. So if you're free and clear, why NOT spend 2 grand to fix it if it would bring 5500-6000 from a buyer? I'm no math wizard, but that seems to pencil out at a net gain of 3,500 to 4,000 bucks. I wouldn't count on making that by parting it out.
