Hi folks, I am so glad to see that there is a forum out there with like minded folk.
This is my first post and I have a question.
I just purchased a 2006 Liberty CRD Limited and this morning was the first time I filled it with fuel.
The fuel nozzle kicked off, I forced more fuel into it thinking it would burp and spew in the filler cap area if over full.
That didn`t happen. All of a sudden I heard splashing and sure enough the diesel fuel appeared to be spilling out from UNDER the unit about centre rear.
Is the overflow not plumbed to the filler cap housing area?
If so is my overflow pipe or tube broken off at the top of the fuel tank?
Any ideas.
If this is normal then I will not go beyond the point that the filler nozzle trips the next time.

This is quite normal. Some have it worse than others. There are multiple pages on this topic. When I get to a computer, I will search for some (I'm on my phone).

I'm also sure more people will chime in.

Like infernicus stated, there are quite a few threads on this. Our 05 gas Libby will spill out even before it shuts off the nozzle. If I remember right, there is a design flaw in the filler neck or a stop/check ball or something that causes it. You can replace tank with an upgraded one I think that cures the problem.

Thanks so much guys, WOW I can`t believe they would design something like that where it spills out onto the ground.
Does filling the top portion of the tank slowly help at all or its coming out n matter what?

It did for me.

Dealer did something, helped a little.

Giant tow chain pulling me out pre tow points, ripped a gaping hole in it and caused me to buy a new one. No problems now!

Thanks for the info, it at least put me at ease being its the nature of the beast, it doesn`t make it right but at least I don`t have a hole in the tank.
I bought new pads, fuel filter and air filter for it today which I am going to change today.
What oil is recommended for the CRD........I am in Ontario Canada and its cold here.
p.s, I HATE the feel of the trans when the torque convertor locks up,,,,,,,,,,,,,sounds like crap and feels like crap
