Okay so my engine light came on, and the first thing I checked was the gas cap. I screwed it off and saw a deep dark hole. I see what looks like two brackes that the flap thingy used to be mounted to.

Anyone else missing a flap?
Should the engine light go on because this is missing?
Should I fix it?
It's a 2007 Sport 4x4

Thanks
Everyday my Jeep does something new just to get attention.

Mine does not have a flapper on it, and I have no check engine light, I have the overflow gas issue with mine, though!!!

Why? First thing I would do is check the codes.

You can do that with the key trick.

Checking the codes doesn't help when you have no clue what they mean and don't have a internet accessible phone to look up the codes when you're driving down the road....

It's a bad idea to check for OBD codes when you're driving down the road.Image

Was that something added to newer KJ's? My `04 never had one either.

I don't think so.
IIRC my '02 had the flap.
Even my YJ has it.
