Driving to work this morning, EVIC showed 8°F and there was snow and ice on again. Had the defrost going trying to clear it off and then the windshield went POP. Cracked about 2/3rds of the way across right in my line of sight. :x What the heck else is going to happen to this Heep?! I've owned about 12 vehicles in the last 16 years that I've had a license and I've never seen that happen. Ugh...

did you have a rock chip in it somewhere? I had one, barely visible right along the DS edge of the glass, about a year ago it started spreading towards the PS right in the middle, now it is almost to the PS edge of glass and looks like the outline of a mountain range. once it hits the other side, i'll call insurance and get it replaced for my $100 glass deductible.

Yep happened to me earlier this winter too. The heater in these rigs kicks booty, but there are consequences if you get a rock chip.

In the six vehicles I had owned in the last 5 years I have never had a window break. (knocking on wood) I live in the country and every day to drive my sister to work for a year I drove behind gravel hauling trucks. I have full glass now so I don't really care if I got a bad crack or chip or even a break. I guess I am just lucky so far.

I wonder if the "Made in Canada" at the bottom of the windshield had anything to do with this?

Seriously though, they are coming Tuesday to replace the windshield. Hopefully it'll be higher quality than the trash that the factory used.

My company car ( Ford Taurus) has had 4 windshields in 111,000 miles
all cracked without warning, well one got hit with a rock on a Tuesday and never saw a scratch, nick anything, on Thursday after I'd driven about 50 miles I heard a pop like sound and in 2 seconds it went three different ways :ROTFL:
Its all of the car makers, trying to save weight and cost any way they can

2 small chips in my windshield to this point have not cracked.*knocks on wood* One of them has been repaired but only because it started to spread during the summer while I was doing a hill climb.

Can't tell you how many windshields I pulled in NC which has a pretty mild climate, to the same thing so honestly it's got nothing to do with the "factory trash"

it's the nature of glass

go take a high quality wine glass or something and stick it in the freezer till it frosts, which will be about 20 degrees.. not even 8 degrees..

then run luke warm water across it

it'll explode

only way to get around such shenanigans is to have a 2-3" thick plexi windshield put in, then you get to deal with the migranes and headaches after sitting behind it for 2-3 hrs

it sucks, but them's the "breaks" - i don't use my defroster unless I have to in the winter, I hate breathing hot air anyway

Yeah real funny MUDD! :goink: Ya Jerk!
Mine went pop too...

I definately had rock chips... But not one was located on the fracture line...
I had the heat on (3) on the window and floor. (the jeeps engine temp was 204 at the time) my feet were toasty so I flipped the setting to the windshield... 5 sec. later... POP... a single fracture from the middle of the glass outward..

and it is exactly the shape of how the air hits the window...

I blame digger.... :frankie:

But it's fixed now so I forgive him. :CAMPING:

Highly doubt it,the replacement maybe made in China and will crack if you look at it wrong.

OEM glass is the best you can get on the market.

That pic is exactly what mine looks like!

I guess the OEM glass in the other dozen vehicles I've owned was made of different stuff, because it's been a LOT colder than this in KY over the years and I've never had a crack ever until now. Oh well.. it's getting replaced for free so I don't mind.

haha

My garage was much bigger than that in NC

gave me more room for when stuff toppled over I didn't have to worry about a busted windshield

upgrade and try again ;)

mine will pay for 1 per year, just letting mine finish breaking first.. have a few chips that are expanding about 1/8" a year. Eventually it'll go "POP"

Actually fixed one of them but ran out of resin and i'm pretty sure the other 2 or 3 are too far gone
