Hi, its been several months since I last posted and that's because everything with my kj was ok. Well I thought that...but I've been experiencing something with the electric fan, the thing is that the temperature starts going up passing the 1/2 marker, and yesterday almost went all the way to the red marker...and the electric fan didn't went on until then. My question is, what determines when the fan should kick in? maybe there is something wrong with that part that keeps the fan from starting when it should. Once the fan kicks in everything goes back to normal, I think the cooling system has a minor leak in the coolant tank, maybe a small perforation on the hose... but my concern is the electric fan.

Hope someone has a clue or an answer to get in to this, before taking it to a mechanic and tries to guess what is wrong and starts charging me $$$. Thanks in advanced!

1st you need to find and fix any cooling system leaks before attempting to diagnose the cooling fan.Low coolant will give false coolant temp readings which will effect the cooling fan,the cooling temp sensor can only read temps of the coolant and not air temps.

Oh by the way the e-fan should kick on in a 3.7 KJ at about 218-222 degrees.

thanks for the quick reply! On my way back to the office I turned the A/C on and notice that it started heating up, so I turned it off and it went back down again... I will fix the leak first and continue monitoring the temperature reading, with and without the A/C to see if it's something else.

Thanks again!

I had an intermittent cooling fan on my Rene. Of course, when you are on the highway running 40 mph or more there is really no need for the fan, but at slower speeds you really need it. Mine would work when enough air was moving through it to give it a boost. The Jeep overheated on us in Alaska because of the fan when we were in Valdez. The closest fan was in Seattle, WA! I drove it for the rest of the trip with the fan working sometimes and not others. I replaced the fan when we returned to Florida and it continued to not work reliably. Turns out, in addition to the fan being bad, the connector at the fan was only making contact part of the time. There is also a relay that is mounted on the fender well under the battery. I replaced the stock unit with a beefier one that has a big aluminum heat sink. Now everything is working fine. After this experience I will carry a hank of wire and some wire nuts with me in my kit. If any of the electronic parts that decide when to turn the fan on go bad while I am in the woods I will just wire it directly to the battery and let it run full time 'til I can get back on the highway.
