i got my 05 Liberty 4x4 last spring as a tow for blown motor, and the owner never claimed it. i filed for title through state and got it. i recently put a 38K mile motor in it, and it runs awesome, absoutly love it.

i have put 200 or so miles on it, and i noticed today that when in 2wd the indicator light on the dash says PART TIME, and when i pull the lever up for 4 HIGH, the light shuts off. it engauges and dis-engauges like it is designed for, just the light is working backwards.

any ideas?

has a sensor on the t-case near the linkage, could be loose, damaged or otherwise - fairly common issue

can try turning the key off, cycling it to 4lo and back to 2hi and see if the problem resolves itself

i forgot to mention it was really cold out last night, below zero, not sure if that had anything to do with it?? i did today with it warmed up, shift it from 2wd to 4 high to 4 low and back up to 2wd, still did the same.

i cant complain a bit, i have under 1200$ in a low mileage Liberty! it sat for about 8 months, im sure ill have a few more bugs to work out. thanks for your input!

coulda been moisture, ice, road crud, etc

certainly isn't the first mention of that issue, you'll find 3 or 4 mentions of it in the 4x4 section over the last 30 ish days or so

I believe one fella hosed his down real good, dried it off and it "magically" quit acting up

while that sensor can stick and malfunction, it's something you need to take a look at, if it's not malfunctioning entirely, it means that your linkage hasn't gone fully forward which can cause some abrupt actions of your t-case, increased wear, breakage, etc not to scare ya or anything, it just isn't something you want to entirely ignore

1200 bucks in a KJ is worth working out a couple bugs :P

Can't say i'd let it pass up if I had that opportunity.. not sure I'd care if it even had a drivetrain as long as the body / interior was in great shape

the body is cherry, the interior needed detailed. typical white trash owners. a friend has a detail shop, for $50 she shampooed the seats and carpet, detailed the rest and gave her a bath. im real happy with it & the wife loves it, thats what counts really. ill have to post a few pics up.
