I'm debating whether or not I should paint my stock rims a matte black. If anybody has pictures of their stock rims painted black on a SILVER libby that'd be great if you shared them. I've searched for other threads but all I could find were other colored libbies, such as this thread.

Below is my rather pathetic attempt at photoshopping what they would look like. So let me know, yes or no???

I think it would look good. I'm a fan of black rims. The prep work is crucial though.

Yes Paint them!!! If not black a Charcoal Grey close to the Color of the flairs. a Satin paint will look good like Blue's wheels.

BlueKJ was that before pic taken at the PA Jeeps show @ york fair grounds. looks like that area to me. I'm going again this year and might enter my KJ CRD if I get lifted by then

I actually did mine before winter with FLAT black not matte. NO clear coat either. They have stood up to a lot this winter: curbs, ice, lots of dirt roads, and a replaced tire.

If you got any questions ill try to answer them.
But it was pretty simple.
Took em off
Hand sanded with 100 Grit and 200 Grit Sandpaper
then cleaned with alcohol
then wiped down really well
then painted twice.. with flat black
Simple.

Why are you all painting the wheel weights? That's a lot of prep and paint work only to have those come off and get replaced with a different size/location weight next time you B&R. It'll be sea of black and a small strip of silver or rust. :(

I'd remove those first and get the job done before you go for a B&R. They'll put new ones on.

Are ya'll painting the insides of the rim?

Thx!

The paint got mostly under the weights, But youre right bcz after i had the rear tire fixed the re-weighted it.
Now there is a small strip of silver/rust on one. But overall, still looks sick.
I have gotten so many comments from guys at work and school and stuff, and they all love the look, especially with the silver caps.

This was actualy the first and one of the only things I've done to my jeep. I used the flat black used for camo painting and then just a clearcoat over. It works like a charm for me.

I'm a big fan of flat black

I use about as much flat black as Chris does red and pretty colors

I like the black look too.

I also painted my wheel weights, but I just bought a black paint pen and colored them in, Took a whole 3 mins and they don't stand out any more. If I was to get them re-balanced I can fill the new ones back in when I walk out the door at the tire shop, no big deal.
